I have replied back asking for calibre. Would have thought that info. would have been a no brainer.

One would think that consecutive numbers would mean one caliber.
My thoughts,

NRAA Safety Notice - Krieger Barrels

#8 Postby Triplejim » Fri Feb 26, 2021 10:21 am

After the MAB barrels "striation" disaster, the NRAA's internal procedure was to contact the manufacturer regarding the notifiable incident and ask for their report to the NRAA Board. As of this morning, Kreiger have not been contacted by the NRAA.

Part of the problem may rest with the fact that no-one in the current NRAA echelon would have experience of the decision making process during the 2005/6 reports. It would have been prudent to have referred to the previous NRAA Gunsmith for his advise and knowledge on procedures before issuing "safety notices".

Last night I e/mailed Krieger asking for more information. Have received a reply. Barrel numbers listed pertain to.30 Palma .308 cal 298x307 sold to Sth. Aust. Rifle Assoc. This clarifies the situation and should have been acted on earlier . If I knew how to upload the reply I would do so.
Cheers,
Trevor.

Updated Safety Notice from Krieger Barrels Inc. USA

Dear Members of the NRAA,

We wanted to be proactive and make you aware of a situation to clarify any fears or misunderstandings there may be.

On February 13th one of our barrels experienced failure after 2,528 rounds. Thankfully the shooter was not injured. We have been made aware of the situation earlier this week when Catherine Berry from NRAA reached out to us.

The barrel in question was sold to the So. Australian Association on July 15th 2016. It is a 30 cal .298x.307. We have not yet received the barrel to perform metallurgic tests to identify the issue.

We have isolated this concern down to just a handful of barrels. Many of which are likely no longer in service. All of the below serial numbers are 30 cal 298x307 barrels.

These barrels were sold to So. Australian Rifle Association. If you suspect that your 30 caliber Palma barrel was from these serial numbers and is still in service, we encourage you to get it inspected by a competent gunsmith with a borescope to look for any anomalies in the steel.

We do understand that metallurgic anomalies in steel can occur although they are extremely rare. Shooting can expose anomalies that may not have been picked up from our prior inspection. If anything is found, please contact us directly at kbi@kriegerbarrels.com so we can have metallurgic testing done.

Rest assured every single barrel that leaves our company is thoroughly inspected and only made with the best quality steel.
