Hi All,
Looking at entering my first 500m Fly Shoot and wondering who else was heading down to Canberra on the 7 Mar.
Will probably enter both light and heavy gun.
Details can be found on the 500m Fly Shooter website forum.

I would love to but cant get that weekend off. I have a good spotting scope, wind flags and other fly shoot bits if you want to use them.

Michael
Glad to hear you are giving the Fly Nationals a go. Majura is a nice range and conditions are sure to be challenging. It should be a great shoot.
Its definitely worth entering both classes, as the 2 Gun is recognised, as well as the individual light & heavy class results.

I have that weekend off and I would like to give this a try. I have never tried this before and so I do not have any knowledge of the fly shoot rules. Can somebody please point me to forum Michael was talking about?
If you have a powerful enough scope, you wouldn't need a spotting scope, would you? Forgive my ignorance, like I said I have not done this before.

It is handy if you have someone with (I assume Mick will go with his dad or someone???) to be looking through a spotting scope to try to find the bullet hole at 500M. The shooter wont see holes appear during recoil, will be busy with ejecting a case and feeding a new one in and lining the rifle up while his spotter does the searching. Though my fly guns have 60x March scopes, my bigger 60x spotting scope is a bit better at finding bullet holes. I am trying to get my daughter into shooting, those young eyes will be good for finding bullet holes.

I think it is time to give Matt a call to get a 6BR built.
And I still won't be shooting F-Open, yet.

I am assuming the website referenced is http://www.500mflyshooter.com.au/
Full event rules are at: http://www.ssaa.org.au/competition-info ... lebook.pdf
As Rod mentioned, the rules allow other competitors to spot for each other, and it does help a lot. You will often see a group of friends alternating competing and spotting duties through the day. Personally, with my eyesight, seeing bullet holes is difficult at 500 so the help of a spotter makes a big difference.
