Re: Monto sweepstakes
Well what a great weekend it was at Monto. I'm about to become a local at the end of the year with one of my siblings marring a Monto local. So this will more than likely be an Annual Opm for me . My first time at this range and my first impressions walking the range was a cautious " this is an easy range, calm conditions , 7 mm , a brilliant wind reader ( lol ), not going to drop a shot!" Doh! Well ended up dropping 12 . Only most of the time 1/2 to 3/4 minute changes that at times , I just couldn't see it . Wind was from predominantly from 2 o'clock . But would come from all directions many times in a string . Was a lot of fun and reminded my thick noggin not to preempt a shoot! And was taught a lessen that the wind is in charge !
There were a number of possibles and B Casky is in great form taking the first day! Of note was G Towrrs with that brilliant 22-Br shooting a 60.9 at the second 500yds. I must mention a special thank you to Mr Towers for loaning me his brilliant little rat gun . When my beloved 7-08ai , trigger failed on the second day, half way through the first 600 yds( in fact I had a few offer me a rifle so I could finish in dignity . Great sportsmanship!) . What a cracker of a gun in light conditions!
There was a great duel between S Connerly , G towers and B Caskey . With B Caskey showing how it's done with a possible at the first 600 yds . Then Mr Connerly taught us a lesson in the second with an 89 and change . Ended up very close with only change separating the top runners .
In Standard there were a lot of newbies and families shooting together , which is just beeping brilliant !
Gympie/killkeven and Bundy are doing a wonderful job bringing in new members , notably D Hatheral and Andy Mac and of coarse others driving it along !
Former Au champ N Williamson ( who is hard to beat !) took the weekend with B Pickles keeping him honest . J Turner a young A grade standard shooter is one to watch out for and showed impressive skill!
In b grade using a factory rifle young R Crawford shot a possible late on the first day . So another one to watch!
Great shoot , again a different range that was anything but easy and again I learnt heaps !
Thanks to Monto Rc for a great weekend and thanks to the fellow competitors and visitors for a great weekend !

G towers showing that a rat gun can't be under estimated !
