The range is flat and greener than Belmont.
Ground is unusually lumpy underfoot.
13 countries represented.
From memory (which can be a bit dodgy)
350 shooters for the nationals and 420 for the worlds.
Driving on the wrong side of the road takes some paying attention.

No,no,no, it's the RIGHT side, if you drive on the other side (wrong) you will be in deep do-do!! We all want to see you come home safely!!! 8) 8) 8) 8)

When you have been draging a cart from one end of a 76 target range to another theres only one thing to rebuild your energy

I had the Baconator in June when I went to the states. Was absolutely amazing =P~ , much better bacon than what I can find in Victoria.

The only thing though, ordering large sides was the equivalent to what was needed to feed a small country   They really pack it in over there

Peter

Due to the amount of shooting we are doing and the importance of the event, most shooters either brought 2 complete rifles or spare barrelled actions. Pretty much all F Open shooters who came here ended up with 3x 32kg bags, then carried as much as they could in their carry on luggage. We flew Air Canada as they are the only carrier who flies direct to Canada at this time of year, and air Canada will not allow cheap pre-purchased baggage as Qantas does. They also limit the extra bags checked in so we can only check in 3 bags total. For other countries, Qantas is a good option as you can pre-purchase excess baggage pretty cheaply and can take up to an extra 6 bags I think.

Fair enough Rod. That explains it. Best wishes and good shooting to all!
Peter

Today was our first day on the main range and weather was pretty good but had very thick mirage for most of the day. The range and mounds are very flat so your are looking only a few feet above the grass at most.
We shared around practice slots so everyone could have a bit of a go but each session was very rushed, so we couldn't test much at each range. So far it looks like all shooters on our team have their gear going fairly well but many will be using the Nationals to fine tune their gear and to practice shooting 2 to a mound Bisley style.
The range is much wide than we are used to so a cart is needed to get your gear from one end of the line to the other. Our crew seemed to be at opposite ends of the range as well. Practice for most consisted of 15 minutes each at 700, 800, 900 meters but the time included getting to the line and setting up your gear. A few of us shared their session with another team mate and a few started to practice Bisley style once they had got zeroes, velocity tests and basic tunes. The Nationals start tomorrow and the weather should once again be fairly gentle but lots of mirage. It seems F/TR are the first 2 relays and F Open after that. I know Tim and my start time for 700M tomorrow is 10.18AM while some F/TR start at 8.00AM

Rod and Tim thanks for the updates. Looking forward to the next ones when the shooting starts and don't forget to include the inside gossip. We can keep secrets!
Good luck.

Hi Rod and Tim,
Thanks for the commentary. Give those Nth Queenslanders a rev up especially that Peter Carter fellow.
Cheers and good shooting,
Trevor A.

5 from OZ in the top 20!!!!!
Davies in his usual fashion is #1 with his "B" gun
Just don't tell anyone :D
It was a big day, weather was great.
At 900m I was watching the previous relay and was sure it would be V's and 5's as the conditions seemed calm but there was a lot of vertical and shots lost to wind ????
It was there according to the targets but most couldn't see it.

A fantastic first day by the Aussies,
Ausome work Rod (1), Steve L(3 and Pete Carter (10) plus lots of other high ranks.

For those that haven't heard I unfortunately had to pull out of the Captaincy due to work. Craig Mcgowan has been named Captain and Marty Lobert Vice Captain. Congratulations guys and looks like the initial preparation has gone well over there for most.

Good Luck and I am sweating on every moment.

Commiserations Dave. And thanks for all the work you've already done. South Africa in 4 years time? I have no doubt that Craig and Marty will step up and do a great job.

I have been pretty much sort of behaving myself most of the time here so I don't anticipate going down the toilet on this trip.

Your lucky Rod Mr Willis probably couldn't have brought his home made jungle juice with him on this trip ;)
