#1 Postby alscol71 » Thu Aug 20, 2020 2:25 pm

Not sure about the detailed regulations, but I've had barrels posted by gunsmiths to my home address in Vic from SA, Vic, NSW and ACT. On their own they are no more dangerous goods than a steel pipe, and the police don't track them as they do with actions.

Tasmania requires barrels, triggers, & magazines to go through a dealer.

Qld they don’t I know that.

Barrels in QLD are a much misunderstoid comodity. They are, in fact, a firearm in their own right ( under conversion units) see (3)

From the Weapons Catagories Regs

Category B weapons
(1) Each of the following is a category B weapon if it has not
been rendered permanently inoperable—
(a) a muzzle-loading firearm;
(b) a single shot centre-fire rifle;
(c) a double barrel centre-fire rifle;
(d) a repeating centre-fire rifle;
(e) a break action shotgun and centre-fire rifle combination;
(f) a weapon mentioned in any of paragraphs (a) to (e) that
is a blank-fire firearm.
(2) A conversion unit is also a category B weapon.
(3) In this section—
conversion unit means a unit or device or barrel that is
capable of being used for converting a category B weapon that
is a firearm from one calibre to another calibre.

but the legislation then eliminates certain restrictions on them.

I believe there still needs to be a dealer at one end of the transaction but as they aren't serialised I don't see how it can be policed.

Only if they are fully fitted and headspaced to your action, otherwise it’s merely a major part, possibly a bit grey so best to leave it be I think :?
