Norma 6.5-284 Brass question

#1 Postby CamoWhamo » Sun Dec 19, 2021 6:47 pm

I've been mucking around with a Wildcat idea based on a shortened .284W case.

But I've been having a ton of trouble with case shoulders creasing during the forming operation.

Hornady, Winchester and lapua brass all had the same problem.

But the 2 old pieces of Norma 6.5-284 brass i tried both came out perfectly.

So my question to anyone that has used Norma .284 brass, did you find it thinner or to have more case capacity over other brands or was it just dumb luck that the only 2 pieces I had worked for me when every other brand failed?

Ok so nobody has chimed in so I can only express my application.So hoping this will answer some of your questions.
I used 270WSM brass to shorten to SAUM brass. The things I've found is;
1. annealing the brass helps.
2. Creases in the shoulders is caused by too much case lube.
3. Don't try to take the shoulder down in one go.
