Loads for old 143.5gn FMJ pills

Hi guys,
Happy New Year to you all.
I am after some advice please and this is the place to find it I believe.
I have just purchased a beautiful old, Serial prefix DE, Sport co. Mod 44 in 7.62. I have also been given 500 old 143.4 gn full metal jacket projectiles to start my journey with this rifle. The rifle is the full wood version with a 24” barrel in medium section, do I leave the top wood on or not, for cooling in our hot riverland conditions. ??
Main question is do any of the older shooters, like myself, have any recipes for loads using 2208 behind these pills. I think they were used all the time at one stage before the advent of the 155 & 155.5 pills. Any advise would be appreciated.
I have used the 155 & a few others in my 308 but never used these pills since leaving the military in 74. Any help?

While ADI does not list data for 143.4 grain projectiles the data for 150s would be a safe starting point. If you wander over here:

You can have a look at the load ranges for 150s (44-47) and 130s (47-50) and intuit that starting at 44-45-46 grains will put you in the right ballpark.

Believe it or not I had forgotten that post, sorry to take up your time. But you are correct, no one actually gave me data for the question I asked about 143.5gn fmj, I was sure someone on here had used them, obviously not.
To Saum2 , “If you have some of the newer BTI powder I would recommend starting a grain lower than Barry suggested.
After recently helping with load development with a new barrel using 155gn projectiles the load node looked good at 45.4 of 2208 and giving 2960fps. this was in a modern barreled action as well.”
You gave me all the info on your 155 gn experience using a modern barrel, thanks but I knew all that anyhow, I was shooting 308s for years using HBC projectiles over 45.5gn 2208.
I was after a specific answer from some one who had shot the original F class with the rifle I purchased and the barrel fitted.

Well here you go then, nearly everyone used 2206 @43.2 gns...............2208 came into production much later when the heavier pills replaced the 144gn projectile. So, no 2206 unless someone has a very big stash somewhere. The reason no-one gives you exact powder weights is everyone used 2206, you only want to use 2208 and the golden rule applies; start lower and work up Your load to suit Your application and barrel.

Cheers Mate ..Shot plenty of 144gr pills out of Omarks ..42gr of 2206 (not2206H) and 44 gr of 2208 print pretty much the same without any pressure out of my rifles . Until recently was using 44.5 of 2208 with 155 dyers ok ,but if you use a projectile with a long bearing surface ,such as some 155 bergers or 155 Hornady ELD,s the bolt may be stiff to open unless your primary extraction is spot on . If stiff ,drop charge back . I never used more than 44.5 X2208 but seen plenty use more but I was not game ...Mauserjr
