Painting has finally been finished. Ended up going to a spray painters as I was useless at it. The only thing I will do is give it a light polish.

Will have the rifle bolted together tomorrow arvo with all the go fast bits on it!

You should see the shed rod... 200kg of beer bottles, a boat and some reloading gear

That bench inside the man land room is actually for tying flies but always ends up with shooting stuff on it.

Hi Brad,

I've just had some stock work done, and need to repair/redo my paint job. Your paint job has come up a treat!!! I like the gloss!

I have a laminated timber stock, can you suggest what undercoat and final coat I should apply? Acrylic or Enamel or ???

I gather that as it is currently painted, my easiest option would be to sand it back lightly, then apply an undercoat of some sort?

If anyone else has some experience with painting stocks, please feel free to offer some advice.

first you need to know what the stock you have got is painted in (2 pac, acrylic , enamel. or house paint) as acrylic will fry the other paints listed because of the high solvent content. 2 pack primer will hold most paint substrates down , and then you have to carefull what (colour) base coat you use as timber absorbs solvent to be released latter preventing the top coat hardening properly, can also give you solvent boil and blistering. shit this all sounds very negitive hey. but you asked. and yes 2 pac is poisoness (icocyinates), if it acrylic you can use those rattle can car touch up tins. and to think i do this crap for a living. cheers Paul .

My advice is rub it back to timber and take it to a spraypainter. They can do with it what they do best and get the job looking good.

Bolted it all together tonight and screwed the krieger 308 barrel in. Gee the 2 pak slides nice in the front bag. Will take a decent pic tomorrow arvo of it all set up at its first firing.

that stock is now ready for the final stage.
as soon as it is on the barrelled action, you can start getting ideas of how to pimp it up.
stickers are the easiest method, but pimping knows no bounds, and originality reaps its own rewards.
perhaps the nra could introduce an award for pimpgun of the year.

OK, so maybe I should just sand it back and take it to a professional.

I hope they have YELLOW in stock. No pun intended!

I certainly like the glossy look, and it should give a more slippery outer skin.

Just as you will now be very protective of the new paint job, you'll need to ensure you don't spill any cleaning fluid on the paint job!!!

Pimping the stock sounds like an idea. I will probably just go for some vinyl stickers- will keep a look out for something suitable.

The 2 pak slides very well in the cordura front bag. Leather bag at the back isnt so good and I will get a new bag for it. Going to try a can of the hoppes dri lube on the bags as well to give it a bit more. And yes will have to get a butt sock to stop getting chemicals on it.

if you are going to the north queensland teams, see the south aust fopen team for good pimping ideas.
i believe one of them comes under the heading of "extreme pimping'' , and would be hard to outdo, but it could be worth the challenge.
its owner is a good mentor to any aspiring stock pimper, but has failed on the metalwork, other than the bolthandle.

as in interim measure, have you considered what the fur trappers of the rockies and the indians did with their hawken, sharps, and springfield trapdoor rifles.
they used brass thumbtacks to make patterns. simple to use, just press them in.

Should be diamontes and sequins at minimum. Fox fur cheek rest, fluffy dice bolt knob, mirror ball hanging from trigger guard.
