35 Target Rifle shooters in total comprised 20 in A Grade, 8 in B Grade and 7 in C Grade.
The 26 shooting F Class were made up of 12 in F Open, 5 in F Std A Grade and 9 in F Std B Grade.
The event was based on 2 + 10 at 300 yds, 500 yds and then 500 yds again to finish.
Good scores shot on the day are a pretty fair indicator of the winds we experienced........just enough to make sure that you did actually have to concentrate to avoid dropping a shot.
It was my lucky day in F Open shooting my 284 Win, and my 179-10 out of 180 was enough for me to get up by just one "X" from Brent Knudsen, another Beaudesert Club member, who also shot a 284 Win, for 179-9 !!
In third place and just one point back on 178-15 was well respected QRA Senior Range Officer John Kielly (JohnK on this Forum, and "He who must be obeyed" at the QRA Queens in a couple of weeks time) John shot his 6BR with style, and its great to see him back shooting again, after a lengthy spell due to eye problems. He actually kicked my butt with it a week before at Belmont over 800, 900 and 1000 so it seems that the old bugger hasnt forgotten how to shoot while he was getting better.
Mark Fairbairn came out to Beaudesert for a good hit out before heading to the USA for the FCWC, but probably thought the shooting fairies had deserted him after dropping 6 at 300 yards and another 3 at the first 500 yards with one of his 7mm's. Lucky the big bugger is a mate of mine, coz then i can share with you that at lunchtime he tried cleaning it for the first time in a hundred or so shots, and after shooting an unlucky 59-6 he drove home with his faith restored and a huge satisfied grin on his face, regardless of finishing in 8th place.
Andy Odgers from the Gold Coast Rifle Club took home the 4th badge with 177-12 , and fifth badge to hardworking Beaudesert Rifle Club member Di Hannel shooting her 6.5 x 47 Lapua, and scoring 176-18. Di won the "range" and beat me home on a countback for the first 500 yards with a 60-6. We would see a lot more of her at Prize Meetings if she wasnt so busy with her horse stud where she foals down 40 odd valuable thoroughbred brood mares.
"He who must be obeyed"........John K, asked me with a grin, just before the prizegiving, if i was embarrassed to win with such a paltry "X" count, and I "nearly" had to agree ! i am writing this on Tuesday morning, and have to confess that I ran out to my gunsmith near Stanthorpe yesterday to get the throat recut in my 284, looking for more precision. 60-1 at 300 was nearly embarrassing for me when Lindsay Schneiden had shot 9"X's", Di Hannel had shot 6, Mark Fairbairn 5, Andy Odgers 4 etc
F Standard A Grade was a ding dong battle between 5 highly experienced campaigners with hell of a lot of experience between the five. Ernie Mace eventually won the day with 178-20, from Gold Coasts Mick Kyle on 178-14. Third badge to Brian Pickles on 177-13 and US bound Team Manager Jenni Hausler fourth with 176-13. Fifth badge to Dick Blocksidge on 171-8.
F Standard B Grade saw a good win to Murwillumbah shooter Mick Sforcina on 174-12, from second placegetter G Morris on 172-9 and third badge to a relative newcomer George Constantinou from Natives Club , with 168-6.
Fourth badge to another Murwillumbah member, Ron Millingen, with 167-6.
Fifth badge to new Beaudesert member Steve Nelson shooting in his first ever Prize Meeting. Steve is the brother of well known Victorian long range shooter Norm Nelson who won recently at Coonabarabran, and has recently joined Beaudesert RC, along with son Brent who also shot F Std B Grade
Target Rifle was well contested, with the eventual winner Damien Earl from Pacific Rifle Club being piped in to oversee the whole Prizegiving ceremony by the well played bag-pipes of young Club member Angus Toomey. Angus and his mother Maria were among the crew who worked hard in the Butts all day.
Damians 150-19 got him home from Mirko Teglasi in second with 150-16 and Rob Bondfield third with 150-14.

The BRC Committee did a great job sourcing trophies, with prizes and medals for 1,2 & 3 place at each range, for every Class. Aggregate to 5th Place in all Classes except TR A Grade, which saw badges awarded to 15th place.
