Politics & Malabar

Post by macguru »

Just heard an interview with Michael Feneley, Liberal Candidate for Kingsford Smith, down at Coogee Beach on the ABC. Inevitably, the future of the Malabar headland came up for discussion. Michael, with the obvious co-operation of the interviewer, was careful to focus on the dispossession of the Riding school and "other interest groups" and the successful court action by "one stakeholder" without naming the NSWRA or talking about shooting interests at all. While he was happy to criticise Peter Garret's high handed and unsuccessful attempt to take over the headland at the expense of these 'interest groups' , I did not get the impression that he wanted to be seen as an advocate for shooting sports.

It would be a rare politician that would, stepping out on a limb like that.
It would not do their political career much good advocating this issue, only providing ammunition to their detractors in the future, no pun intended

Malabar is still a Labor seat, I understand. I am not sure that this will make too much difference to the future of the headland, but if anyone knows differently I would like to hear ...

Yes Ben, certainly before the election, although newly elected Senator and RosevilleRC F_Class shooter DAVID LEYONHJELM did mention Gun regs when interviewed by Adam Spencer this morning. I do not wish to paraphrase it for you now but while he pointed out that Gun Laws are largely a State matter, he did feel that John Howard went too far... Still, he was not elected on those issues and the LDP has probably other priorities, still its good to see someone who understands us get through the mill !
