My impression is a good 7mm will be capable of 60.10 at 300, but it'll be more likely to get one at 800. An average 7mm will still hold the 6 ring at 300, which is the main thing that matters. Although even that doesn't matter at some events e.g. Tassie Queens starts at 500.

I usually use 168s up to about 6 or 700.

Yes, and easier on brass. Even the SMK175s are noticeably easier on primer pockets than the Berger 180s.

chopper,
any good 7mm rifle should easily hold the x ring at 300 if loads are worked out properly.
the 168 gn bullets equal the 140 gn 6.5s in b.c., so if you want less recoil, have a barrel chambered for something like the 260 rem.
alan,
would not case life be related to balancing powder charge to bullet?
keep safe,
bruce.

Not that I shot for group Chop
My rule of thumb is .3moa average
The one occasional tight group doesn’t necessarily make it a winner.
I would say the 6mm would be more likely to group tighter at that short range.
I usually determine my grouping ability (potential Accuracy) on the av SD of group.
