Loads for 185 Grain Projectiles

Post by bobped »

A friend asked me about loads for 185 gr. projectiles for 308W.
I had no idea so I promised I'd ask.
He's shooting 185 gr. projectiles in a 308W and says that they are not registering on Silver Mountain targets at 1000yds. Observers in the butts say the bullet is going through the target.
I can only assume the projectiles are below the speed of sound and are therefore not registering on the Silver Mountain system.

What suggestions so people have for loads and or powder types for him to try please?

Cheers
Bob Pedersen.
P.S. Its not me. I've dabbled in F Open but keep coming back to F Standard.

Hi bobped I have been shooting F/TR for a few years now. Have no problem with a 1000 yards with 185 gr and 2208 powder 45gr.But have changed to 200:20x that is me. As for silver Mountain : can't help there . All I can say have had no problem with or any other system.

It all depends on the individual rifle, with Winchester cases,46.5 grains of 2208,or 45.5 grains of 2206H and 185 Hybrids or Juggernauts, this isn‘t a recommendation,it is what I used at the time.

Hi Again. Thanks for the replies so far guys. Please keep suggestions coming. My mate wants to get a decent load for the Tassie Queens which starts on the 7th March.
Any data on bullet seating depths would also be appreciated.
