My point Raven is that the Calibres and projectiles used in FO are considered to be far superior to the .308 and .223 with their projectile restrictions in FS, Quite a few results i have seen and been there to witness prove the above to be obviously not the case. All im saying is its not an ideal way to promote the complexity of FO if a crummy old .308 tops them on a ragular basis. Maybe one way to stop this could be to go back to the championship target so no comparison could made.

The 223s and 308s are competitive against the FO calibers in the medium range game in reasonable conditions. Gosford was all done at 500M and overall, the conditions were not too bad, a few realy good, and a few yucky patches. The winner of F Open was using a Remington hunting style rifle, not a dedicated F class rifle. 3rd place was in his 1st F class shoot in a few years, using a borrowed rifle. Last place in F Open, was actualy a 308 doing load developement. If a high ranked F Open shooter was there with his 6 Dasher, things might be a bit different.
The main reason why F std beat F open is the human drivers, a lot of the top 10 in F std at Gosford are highly rated F class shooters, among the top F class shooters in the country.

Its as I thought Rod - I suspected patchy conditions with both you and John Peters well down the order, and I suspected short ranges too, where the high BC F-Open projectiles don't really get a chance to show their superiority.
Tom, you'll see F-Open getting "upset" by F-Std from time to time, but there will usually be obvious reasons. Quite apart from the above, there are many more F-Std shooters, so you'd expect them to be more competitive at the sharp end. BTW, as is usually the case, the average F-Open score was higher (whew!).
Let's see what happens at the Canberra Queens, particularly at 800m. My 7mm will be getting its first serious outing Rod - I'm looking forward to it.
