Does a 1:14 twist cut the mustard?

Post by Ben C »

OK Folks,

I know that according to some Web sites etc, that a 1:14 twist rate (for 30 cal) is enough twist rate for 155 grain pills, some even say 168 grainers  . What I would like to know is, has anyone got a 1:14 barrel in .308 Win that really cuts the mustard pushing 155 grain pills?? And if so, is it equally good at the longs?

Experience rather than theroreticals please

You'd be looking at a 3 groove Maddco.
Yes no problem with the SMK, BUT I don't know about the HBC.

Would the number of grooves or the brand make any difference?

I have a preference for 12" twist over 14" twist in .308 barrels & advise my customers so. Interesting to note, I have also had excellent success with 10" twist barrels with 155 grain bullets. On top of that I like 7" twist in 5.56mm.
