This is quite interesting, as last year I went to the Gosford Open Prize meeting to shoot, and as I do, take pictures of the event as well for posting on Flickr. I gave a disk of these photos to Dennis Smith for his club to use, given the fact that they have electronic targets and these photos showed them in use.
The next edition of ATR had a half-page photo of mine showing the electronic monitor system and details of the prize meeting. Whatever the circumstances of no details of the FCWC, all magazines have deadlines for printing, and maybe more of us should endeavour to take photos and submit them for publication as well as results etc on a more regular basis.
What is that expression "Get in their face" and make them even more aware than they might have been before. That is not to say that the NRAA would not be aware of the team and its trip to compete, given the lead-up time beforehand.
I would suggest for the future, where possible, that any and every F-Class event, big or small, where ever in Australia or overseas where teams or individuals are competing, the details of this be sent to the NRAA and the Editor of the ATR on a very regular basis, so that on their part there is no excuse at all that they did not know about it.
To me F-Class is the future of shooting in Australia, the NRAA can try to ignore it, but it cannot be denied that this sport is growing, the number show this at prize meetings. To add to this when you see TR shooters of a very high standing shooting FC in a Queens, they themselves having made the change due to health or eyesight, it says volumes about this sport that maybe the NRAA has missed altogether.
I shoot FC at ANZAC and on a regular basis I get TR shooters from other clubs asking me all sorts of questions about FC, the majority of them older shooters. Based on this, in the new year I will be approaching the MDRA on a formal basis to see if it is possible to have show and tell day for FC or an open day to showcase this sport and make more people aware of it and how they can get involved and make this change, it is easier than than they would think.
There is interest there but it needs to be harnessed and focused and directed at the NSWRA and also the NRAA from within its own membership base.
As I say to people sometimes, S*** happens, but sometimes you have to make S*** happen, and this is one of those times. One's initiative is a powerful thing, don't wait for it to happen, make it happen, that is what gets things done..
For those of you that have not see my pictures from prize meeting, go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/ben_talman/sets/ and you will see sets of photos from various prize meetings, my way of providing greater exposure for this sport.
