300 "shobby" is something John shobbrook and Jerome came up with. It's a 375 ruger with the shoulder pushed back and blown out so you end up with more neck length than a WM or Dakota and still plenty of capacity to push 230s. Ticks a lot of boxes
I like the 300 skadi which is the 300 Norma with the same treatment but moves back to the "short and fat is where it's at" design. I haven't seen any around in the flesh but again it may be because of the lap boltface requirement.

Not to mention Australian & NZ range energy restrictions!!!! Keith H.
I am setting up a 300wsm for 230 berger OTMs as this is pretty much the energy limit in NSW F open. I expect to get around 2800 fps tops and i hope that will be enough.... Its a 9 twist bartlein HV barrel.
...yes i see what you mean about the prs, its based on the case on the left. My 300wsm230berg load on right ....

RDavies, My guess it will be if you run it to it's potential. I did it to try and see what happens as well as it uses the same bolt face. I guess I could've done a 7WSM type case as well.

My original starting load (as there is no load data) gave me 2800fps and accuracy was excellent. Then I bumped it up two different loads and went to 2850 and then 2900 and again accuracy was still excellent. So now I bumped the load again and I'll see what it does.
So theoretically at 2800fps I would make the range limits for Aust. and could come down to visit you guys?

Hmm, just over 4000 ft lbs of energy, won't make the energy limits in some states. I just make it in all states with my old fashioned 30/06 AI with 185 VLD bullets. Keith H.
Thats OK Keith, I dont want to shoot it in all states, I wont take it to Belmont or Bendigo. I want to try it at the match rifle ranges in NSW and they told me wsm is ok, but not winmag. I have a 7saum for my barnard for the other stuff...
A little updated on the new rifle. Didn't shoot the match due to weather last Monday. The rest of the week for individual etc...wasn't any better for the guys. They rescheduled one relay to a different day due to rain and took another relay completely out on another. I did shoot the rifle on Thursday the week before at 800, 900 and a 1k. Gun shot very well no matter what I put thru it. I shot 3 different loads. The attached pic. is at 1k with a load that I only had 5 rounds for. After the first shot I moved the scope down and over to the left and shot the next 4. Wasn't worried about catching any wind changes.

Here is an 11 shot group I did with another load. From the previous ammo (different bullet) I made no sight adjustments. First two rounds stacked on top of one another at the bottom center of the X ring. I made no elevation corrections at all. Round #4 I jumped on the gun and blew a 10 at about 4 o'clock on the target. Wind started to pick up a little at shot #5. It was an X at about 4 o'clock. Wind picked up more and shots 6 and 7 went into the 10 ring at about 4 and 5 o'clock. Wind was running from left to right. So out of curiosity shot #8 I held a wide X at 9 o'clock and just above horizontal of the center line. Round #8 came up almost a perfect center X. Finished with another X but as the wind was dropping some I held a tad high but center hold. Those 11 rounds the bullets where hitting the target at about 1894fps ave. and a s.d. of 6.7.

Are you using the new Silver Mountain SOLO? The ones with 8 Sensors? Just curious. Those big pills sure do have some energy down range. They are about going about 200 FPS faster at the target than the 7's I shoot.
macguru wrote:So what cartridge are you using for .30 cal ? or are you developing a wildcat of your own ?
I would guess a 300PRC which is about to be brought out as a proprietary cartridge very soon. Pretty much a 375 Ruger necked down. I think a good sized cartridge, not as overbore as the 300 Nosler or 300 RUM.
