Hello again, this time from Home,

Another great Vic Queens over - and a closely fought one too. Over the course of the Queens, 5 different shooters led the progressive agg, being Rod Mahon, Paul McCarthy, Paul Read, Bill Siegloff and myself. The last day was a real nail-biter. I went into it with a 1 point lead over Paul Read, with Bill back a further 4. At 900yds Bill came up with a very nice 97 to jump ahead of both of us, and I found myself back in 3rd. I shot first at 1000yds and managed a 95 - Bill needed 94 to beat me and started with a string of 10s but ended up with 86, and Paul needed 95 but continued to get the elevation problems he'd had at all the longs to get a 91. So chalk up a win for the 6.5mm \:D/ ! The question is, what calibre for the new Lawton barrel? Hmmm... 6.5mm is looking likely... 8)

QUEENS AGG RESULTS

Thanks to all the F-Open competitors for a friendly and enjoyable event, and commiserations to those who had bad luck with various things - particularly Paul McC.

Till the next Queens Diary (hopefully the National), that's it from me.

700 and 800 yards? There are a few reasons for their exclusion but the main reason is the state of the Bendigo range. They are in their 5th year of extreme drought and the busiest bloke on the range is the guy driving the water cart to keep the dust down. If you look at the ranges shot they are designed to reduce vehicle movement.

However, 700 yards is not shot anywhere else apart from Australia as far as I know and 800 yards is now the easiest range since they fixed up 500 yds.

As a New Zealander I was speaking to said " if you have to shoot two 9's and a 10 to win then this is the toughest competition that I have seen". Meaning that the Victorian Queens provides a greater challenge than anywhere else.

Cheers

Peter,

Yes the drought is getting very serious in Bendigo. I've been to the last 4 Vic Queens plus several other Bendigo events in between, and this is the driest I've seen it.

Obviously it would be preferably for variety to have the 700 and 800 included, but it doesn't add much to the challenge of the event. From the F-Class Open perspective, the change to our new 2007 Open targets was the best thing about this year's event. We now have the toughest range at the end of the event. With the former 1000yd target which was a modified PALMA target with a 10 inch 10 ring, it was an anti-climax after the very hard 900yd 4.5inch 10 ring, and gave little opportunity for substantial points gains i.e. the show was virtually over after the 900. This year, all of the top 4 had some sort of chance before the last range, because a swing of the order of 10 points was possible.
