removing stock tape
the recent need to replace my rear stock tape caused more than a little stress.
the tape itself ,althogh stuck well, came off by pulling carefully.
the problem was it left a sticky coating on the mcmillan fibreglass stock.
what would remove it without affecting the fibreglass?
an internet search suggested that wd40 worked.
of all the things suggested this seemed the safest.
what it did was soften the glue so that it could be scraped off into a snotball which was as sticky as s#@t to a blanket, but off nonetheless.
hope this is of use to someone one day,

Hi Bruce, there is a product called 'Citra' and I think some other variations in name depending on manufacturer. It is made from citrus extracts and is totally natural and will remove any sort of sticky residue from absolutely anything. The only 'do not use' instructions are for suede, plastic or leather. The only problem with it is that quite obviously it smells very strongly of citrus, so you need to like citrus smell or use it outside.
Oh, and keep the lid on it is quite volatile. You should be able to get it from the supermarket in the cleaning section, if you can't find it, let me know.

Go buy a bollte of Eucalyptus oil, that actually breaks down the adhesives in the glue, 99% of other products only re activates the glue. Any other products particularly acetone will react with the fibreglass (acetone is used to clean tools when working with fibreglass)
most glues / adhesives are an acetone base hence the snotballs and sitcky.

ovenpaa,
stocktape is a kind of tape we stick on our stocks so that they are not worn by bags and they slide well in bags.
many people get it from sinclair intl, but some have other sources.
have i seen your name on blackpowder websites?
