they are very cool looking rifles but i expect they would be very expensive. one was on trade me in 338 lapua for $14,000 so that may indicate the dificulty of getting one
There are a few people that use their stocks in F-Class rifles around the place however the ones I know of are all custom rifles built on remington actions...The AI's would be no where near as accurate as these...plus u could build a good competitive rifle for a 1/16th of the price.
I agree with Simon
Anything mill spec you are paying through the nose for its ok if you are a government with an endless supply of money.
Did see one being shot once my factory Rem 7mm Mag
whipped it arse not very impressive accuracy wise
If you are thinking of spending even 3 -5k you could build just about anything you wanted and super accurate.

Just get a good barrel like a Maddco or a Krieger. The AI barrel channel will take quite a chunky profile however make sure you comply with the weight restriction as per the rules. The AI stocks are reasonably heavy so that needs to be taken into account too.
Why would the AI not shoot then if you are suggesting to use maddco barrels? Do some research on who supplies the barrels for AI, I think you might be surprised.
Hi Woody
This thread is mainly to do with cost associated with the mil spec equipment and what you get for your money if its an AI you want go for it if its a competitive rifle you want build one and go on holiday with the change$$$$

Raven, I truly don't understand what your post is about. Anyway, I have read that AI uses Maddco barrels amongst others - maybe I should have said that first.
At the National Queens, a new shooter entered with a tactical style rifle with a Harris bipod. It was a HS-Precision rifle in 300 Win Mag and weighed about 6.5Kgs. I've seen similar rifles at my own range and they generally don't cut the mustard with the custom mades. However, over the course of the Queens we soon realised that this was no ordinary factory rifle and no ordinary shooter. Tony Lee actually finished last, but that belies some great scores he had at some ranges e.g. a 90 at 900yds. And you can imagine the recoil of 180gn projectiles out of a 300WM with a 6.5Kg all-up weight. So in future I'll have a wait and see attitude to factory rifles - you can be lucky and get a very good one, and if you can shoot, then there might be a few red faces.
The AI would be competitive on a FB target but not on the Champ target.
Woody and your point about maddco is?
The original Q was opinion about AI for F-Class IMO because they are mil spec they will cost more because they are a weapon system you dont need a weapon systems to shoot FS and for the money you pay you could build a far better (suitable /accurate) rifle .
Cheers
RB Hi Alan
Just checked out Lee's scores not bad at all.
