Post by bruce moulds »

would anyone not travel if an event was scored out of 100.10 for 10 to count for each range?

Bruce,

I'd still travel. Its no trouble to subtract 40 from a 10 shot score, so it can be compared to what happens everywhere else.

Please,why 100.10?????
We now have a common target where all disciplines can be squadded together, the scoring is uniform so hopefully there are no stuff ups. If only one FO shooter turns up he can at least get a shot. How do you score the mystical 100 if target is electronic, other than changing software to have actual score register as such? or have the check scorer told it is an FO shooter and have him/her do some rapid calculations to get right numbers chalked on board??
If you wish to have your score out of a 100, would it not be better to score as is now accepted, and "ADD" 40 at end of shoot? This would diminish the chance of error, and any error would only affect the minority, which is FO.
Shooting a common target with a constant scoring system can only make more opportunities for FO and so encourage more to have a go at FO.
I am totally unbiased as to what discipline people choose to shoot, the more "butts" on the mound the better and can only benefit our sport.

alan thanks.
ray.you and i are on the same page.
we shoot in our dra on the fullbore target with superv as a tie breaker (x or v). fullbore also shoots out of 100.10, them using their v as a tie breaker, and their 5 as 10. we use their v as 10.
it works better than 60.10 for fclass, because all club members compete for handicap whether they are std, open, fullbore, or bpcr. the inclusion is excellent. we share targets and score for each other.

Hi Bruce, I think I may have incorrectly interpreted your question. I was working on the 100.10 being a means to decimalise the stage score. It would have made my last post read better if I had written "and ADD 40 at the end of "stage" where I wrote "and ADD 40 at end of shoot?"
I am quite comfortable with FB being 50.10 per 10 shot stage. FS being 60.10 and FO being 60.10, or 70, which ever FO shooters prefer.
That we all shoot on the same target, with the markers signalling the value of the shot the same for all disciplines, is imperative to ensure constant and accurate scoring[manual or electronic] and also for check scorers.
I shot at the Lyndhurst two day OPM in March and for me it was a first on "E" targets [Kongs] and they showed the value of the shots on the monitor as 4 or 5 or 6 or X and the conversion to FB or FS went flawlessly. I am impressed with the ease of the super V scoring.
Ray.
PS: does this put us on a different page? :?

hi ray,
we are on the same page re the common target with all its benefits.
we might not be on the same page re common scoring.
the common target has improved things greatly, but fclass people don't seem to see the benefits of going the further step to common scoring.
we are using 100.10 because the fullbore guys wanted to shoot that in order that the icfra target did not appear to crucify the lower graders. this scoring system was seen as preferable to altering the target to to suit beginners etc.
when fullbore was out of 50.10, fclass was going to be shot out of that in our club, but then they went to 100.10 so we did too, and it is working well for all.

Mate, I would turn up if we had to shoot tin cans on top of the target, and so would most of us. What targets are used for F class over seas? I know the yanks and Canadians use 100.x targets, what about the Brits? It would be good if we could all use the same scoring system so we know where we stand in the world. In the meantime, I,ll shoot whatever they stick up in front of me.

The Canadians use a 5 v target as we do. This year at the National championships they are revaluing the target, effectively making it a 1 moa target

I'm with you Rod - if everyone beside you is shooting the same target, there's no cause for complaint. And its not so important that a scoring system be warm and fuzzy - better that it be the same everywhere around Australia so there's no confusion. With the ICFRA targets using a 6.1 scoring system, scores can be compared with all overseas ICFRA target scores (including UK, US etc) either directly or with simple addition. Let's just get on with it as is.

I believe that the Brits only use the ICFRA target for international matches (the Australia match & the world F class championships for example) & have stuck with their TR target for domestic events like the recent Bisley Queens.

The US uses their highpower targets for all domestic competitions, which are virtually indistinguishable from the ICFRA target, but use 10X scoring. They also separate iron sighted & F class shooters & only the latter use the super V (which they then ascribe the value of X to).

I understand that the Canadians use the ICFRA targets but I don't know whether they use the super V & how they score.

Good, thanks for clearing that up.
FWIW, I would rather a 100.10 target than the 60.
If you tell someone outside of shooting , or even outside of fullbore/F class you got a 100, they understand it is a good score. If you say you got a 60, they think, um, is that out of 100?

the sooner british commonwealth countries stop influencing the fullbore movement just because they can, and start doing what is best for world fullbore the better.
i include fclass under the fullbore banner.
the british desire to control fullbore shooting goes back to the days of the creedmoor matches, when they banned wiping between shots because they couldn't beat the americans.
they don't want to allow any bullet in fstd.
the nra aust seems to still be dominated by people who still live in the days of the empire, and cannot see that it is gone. sounds like canada could be a bit the same with their 50 score.
