Apart from the stock and a few extra inches of barrel length it's really no different to a single shot LRPV.

I can vouch for the LRPV's working well.

Just picked up my LRPV for F-Std (to shoot as well as my 308)

223 1:7 left port

I have just started breaking it in & will let you know what I think soon

My wife shoots Savage with a 30" Tru-Flight barrel in .224" (different chamber) with the target action and she rates it very highly, my only observation is the accutrigger will lock if you close the bolt to briskly which means lifting and closing the bolt again to reset it. Otherwise it is a very accurate rifle.

Have you tried increasing the the trigger weight? I think this is the recommended workaround.

For me it's the other way around. My missus slaps the thing around and gets it hung up all the time.

Well I have tested the 223 LRPV

Even with unfired lapua brass it produces excellent groups, using 80gr nosler and 2208. Best so far was 0.25 MOA vertical spread and 0.5 horizontal in a bit of wind at 100m. Similar moa at 300 m with most shots in the x ring though the point of impact crept up a bit as it warmed up. I have only had a few shots at 700m but most of them went in, that was before i started trying different loads

Overall its very, very promising with no bad groups, at least using noslers.

i bought a new 223 savage VLPSS .laminated stock-stainless fluted 1in 9 twist , acuu trigger rifle about 3 years ago . shot fairly good at ranges up to 700 yards . had a bad habbit of locking the bolt /trigger when closing , aparently a common thing with the savage accutrigger , then one day it just started shooting up to sh!t ..only after about 1100 rounds . not real good for a 223 -.. & im not real impressed with the barrels . I ALSO had major trigger problems with a new savage 308 which never really shot up to my expectations . proberly due to wrong twist rate 1 IN 10 for 155 gr ammo - BOTH rifles have been sold & im sure i wont be buying anymore savage,s .. BOTH my old OMARKS outshoot the savage rifles ive owned & are heaps more reliable ..NOT TRYING TO INSULT ANYONE BUT THATS MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE SAVAGE RIFLE .. hope your experience is better !!!!.

Yup, so far so good

1 in 9 is too slow to use 223 80 grainers at longer ranges , as i am sure you now know. 1 in 7 should be great, a guy i know used one in the queens at 800m with ok results. The wind at Malabar was a factor though. I plan on using mine at 3-4-500, and keep the 308 for the rest.

But thanks for your comments about the 308 1 in 10 with 155 grainers, that would put me off using one. My palma has a 1 in 13 and shoots 155s very well with handloads. When i bought it i had to adjust the trigger, it was set way to light & did what you said, but the lrpv came out of the box set up ok. Its a sweet unit, so far.

my savage 223 was a 1 in 9 twist but i was using the sierra 69 grainers , they seemed OK out to 600 yards but like i said the rifle just lost its acuracy all of a sudden ???? . I bought the 308 savage without knowing what twist would work so i sort of got shafted [ my own fault ] but i now have a 1 in 13 twist barrel in the omark & it shoots the dwyers without a complaint from me .. savage have proberly woke up now they are offering a 1 in 7 [ i think ] f-class 223 rifle , not sure what twist they now offer for the 308 .so things might be better .STILL would be good if they did a little bit more research regarding thier so called SELF adjustable BUT safe accutrigger systems ..

I think that 5- 600 yds (metres?) is the limit for 69 gr 223. You need 75 or 80 gr bullets, and a 1 in 8 or faster twist to be effective at 7 or 800 metres and i have seen plenty of people shoot this setup, however i think 308 and hbc have an edge in the wind.

Yes, my LRPV has a 1 in 7 twist.
In 308 they have a few options, 1 in 10 is the most common but also 1 in 12 and 1 in 13 in the ftr and palma models respectively. In the police model 10 range they are starting to offer 1 in 11 5R but i dont think there are any in Australia yet.

Just as a point of interest, the FS (155gr) at the Queens have been won four times by the same shooter using a 308W with a 1 in 10 twist barrel.
