TOM wrote:I understand your line of thought Alan, however, You can use any calibre in F open and those rifles with F/TR or F standard specs will fall in line with F open Rules, why not lump them together to derive a true F class rank on a whole? If need be, then a discipline ranking?
Tom,
You could take that a step further and put T/R in there as well. However in a ranking system, there needs to be a realistic opportunity for anyone on the list to achieve the number 1 ranking, and that wouldn't be the case for the disciplines other than F-Open. If as I suspect you're interested in getting a general comparison between the performances of the disciplines, then that's fairly easy to do in other ways- e.g take median scores of F-Open, F-Std and F/TR over a number of events where they all participate, and analyse them statistically. I prefer not to do that because it tends to cause rivalry between the disciplines, at a time when we're trying to promote harmony.
Not Rivalry between the disciplines but competition ( and comparison ) between the Calibres.
What you'r saying is that somebody using an FTR rig shooting FTR cannot be compared with F open but if they shoot the same rig in F open they can be included in the F open rankings. Does'nt make sense, actually sounds more like discrimination.
An FTR rifle IS an F open rifle.
There is no rivalry between the disciplines, that ceased the day F open mixed with the rest at Prize meetings.
What,s wrong with a ranking list with all F Class disciplines in and designated beside the name which discipline?
Each discipline is still in order, #1 F Standard might be #12 on the list but does that really matter?
Might encourage some to change disciplines to where their ability is better matched?
I asked for suggestions, and if yours gets enough support then I'll consider it. But I'm sure you'd find that the majority of F-Open and F-Std shooters would prefer their own lists. What I think may get some support is for F/TR to be put in with F-Open but only until their numbers justify their own ranking list.
Tom
What would be achieved by comparing Open rifles against Standard and FT/R ??? As they don't compete against each other what's the point, should we also convert the TR scores to FC and put them in rankings as well ????
Matt P
Whats to lose?.... There seems to be an issue comparing F open, F standard, F/TR, why? although F open is seen to be "superior" it would make for an interesting combined ranking list, just for a bit of fun of course.
If the method used to calculate rank does not use the X... what the hell... throw TR in the mix, we can all see how good we are then. Or are you just taking the piss Matt?

One ranking for each discipline is great.
Another ranking inclusive of each discipline would be very interesting...
The only issue I can see is that some F open shooters WILL be out ranked by F standard and F/TR shooters... is this a huge problem???
No different to B or C grade TR shooters out shooting A grade TR shooters at an event.
It's nice to think we're actually competing, but really when was the last time anyone anyone returned serve, i.e. reloaded your projectile and sent it back to you.

Tom,
I'll try to address the issue more directly. You appear to be a fascinated by the notion of F-Open shooters being outscored by F-Std and F/TR. What you need to do is start a forum topic on it. Call it "Tom's World", and give examples of high ranking F-Open shooters being defeated by F-Std and F/TR battlers. If it is a success, it might end up as a TV mini-series.
To all with an interest in this, I'm pleased to announce that Geoff Roberts has offered to reinstate the former rankings system for both F-Open and F/TR. I will be supplying him with the data and he will maintain the system which will be incorporated into his OzScore website.
Initially at least, it will be configured identically as it was, including derivations information. When it is up and running, it will be announced here.
