I don't know if this has been mentioned but Malabar range is in trouble again. Due to problems with the stopbutt they have been reduced to 500 metres as a maximum distance. Apparently will take a bit of federal money to repair. Festival of Sydney will be shot at 300 metres on ISSF targets and at 500 metres

If the problem relates to the height of the stop butt, it seems odd that the shorter ranges are being allowed. From memory you shoot uphill from 300 and 500 plus there is minimal drop after the target, then at 600 and beyond the mounds become more elevated, and the bullets are dropping relatively steeper past the targets.

Hello Andrew,
At this stage the home page of the NSWRA website refers to "restrictions" and suggests that an ammended(sic) program is available in the calendar but I see no change to the program outlined there.

I think it is all still a work in progress.

The amended program was sent to all club captains. Ours distributed it:

Saturday 10 shots at 300, 300, 500, 500m
Sunday 10 shots at 500m & 500m

10 shots at 300m & 300m using UIT ISSF target & scoring system i.e. 10 shots maximum 100

3,3,5,5,then 5,5, sounds like the perfect thing for the new e.t. trend.
I believe there is a prize shoot coming up here that will be 6,6, and you guessed it , 6.
a local scheutzen club (all 200) allows 2 sighters on the first go round, and 1 sighter on the second go round. this works well in their situation.
it could save ammo ant rubber backings on e.t. targets, as well as time.

The scoring rings on the ISSF target is bigger than the standard 300m ICFRA target when used for FC, might be a few shoot offs.

I was just likening the similar ranges at Malabar shoot to what is happening where e. targets are used for prize shoots.
also surmising on potential ramifications when this becomes the norm.

Bruce, I don't think it has much to do with ETs. In fact the use of ETs should mean it is easier to run multiple distances as target changes just involve changing a mask rather than changing a whole target. A shot through the rubber of an ET is the same regardless of the distance.
The PM I shot today was 500,600,600 on manual targets and that was as much to reduce movement on the range and target changes as anything else . Nothing to do with ETs.

I agree with you and it is an issue that hasn't been discussed until now. It is not just a trend in Vic it is more the norm to reduce the number of different ranges at a prize meeting. This, coupled with the reluctance of some to shoot 300 and 1000 is reducing the complexity of our sport.
