the 6.5x47 lapua doesn't look that much behind the 6.5x284 in the wind, using equilavent 140 class bullets.
if it happens to be more waterline friendly, it could be useful.
any comments?

From some early performance figures, the 6.5x47 will likely push a 140gn class projectile to at least 2700fps. My calculations show it would have as good wind drift figures as 6Dasher or 6BRX using e.g. 107SMK over all ranges. A BRX won the National Queens last year, and from what I've seen of another BRX in Vic, they are far from "lame" in the right hands. The 6.5x47 promises to have excellent barrel life, would require no fire-forming, and much milder recoil than the bigger 6.5s - the only question is accuracy - if it has that, watch out

Maybe not so lame
From another site..
"123 scenars have been pushed to 3100fps and 140's to 2850fps... That is very close to 260 performance, but also it uses 10% less powder!!"
Maybe not so lame!!!
Cheers

Barrel vs brass
You can always attempt to equal the performance of cartridges with a larger powder capacity, but you still want your brass to last longer than your barrel.

I spoke to Custers today, they say the new 6.5x47 Lapua brass is due here in August. Recently, I was told it was already in oz?
I am thinking both 6.5 and necked down versions will be very competitive.
A good range of quality projectiles and Lapua brass are a big factor here.
The 6mmBR will still be a hard act to beat though.
