.284W load

Post by Bart »

32" Krieger 5R 1:8 barrel
CCI BR2 primers
180g Hybrid Berger
Lapua brass
53.0 AR2213SC

My little chrono is showing 2895 MV

Not too fast for the .284W?

sounds a bit fast for that much 2213sc powder.
any 180 genuinely doing that speed and more from a 284 will be hard on brass.
actually sounds more like what you would expect with that much 2209.

Bart, as Bruce says, somethings not right. How many rounds thru it so far? are you jamming them? probably need more info.
Just to compare; my 1:8T 284 with 50.2 -2209 ran at 2780fps with 180VLD's. 54.4 of 2213sc with sierra 183 ran at 2840fps. So you may have a fast batch of powder or your chony is running fast or ???
2895fps is going to wreck your brass in no time. check the load against a Labradar to compare.

Good day Bruce

what sort of speed would you expect I should be looking at with that load; or sticking around perhaps

Thanks, Paul

Bart, not sure if you have a very fast batch of powder, but on both of my 284W barrels (exactly the same as what you have with the same components but with a .060” jump) using 55.4gr AR2213SC I was getting 2850 -2870 fps.

Using 51.8gr of AR2209 gives me the same velocity. As above.

The load you’ve stated looks very much like the upper limit for 2209.
