Uniforming flash holes

Post by Billy308 »

Hi all,
How much improvement in group size would one expect from drilling the flash holes to uniform diameter, and any swarf from the inside of the flash-hole removed. I'm using Lapua brass in 308W.
I've noticed since using Federal Gold primers, the Flash-holes visually look like there is a little distortion occurring. I can't say I noticed this with CCi.
When using Winchester cases in the past, I noticed they varied alot, but as there was a good supply of cheap cases $5/100 from clubs, odd looking cases were binned, as with overlength ones after FLSizing.

G'Day Billy
I cannot say how much it improves accuracy but it does. I suppose it depends on the quality of the case and how big the burrs are and the variation in burr size.
With the burrs removed the primer flash can only travel down the centre of the powder column. This leads to reliable and consistent ignition which can only be good for accuracy.
I do all my cases for target and varmint shooting.
Cheerio Ned
