New Vic F-Open (Pro-Cal) Series 2007-8

Post by AlanF »

Paul McCarthy and I have been working on getting another series going, and we've now contacted all OPM organisers of the 6 proposed legs. They're all keen to have us, and Pro-Cal Trading and ozfclass.com will continue the sponsorship.

In recognition of the generous sponsorship from Peter van Meurs, it will be called the Pro-Cal Series \:D/ .

The six legs are as follows :

1. No1 DRA at Horsham Day 2, 700, 500, 600yds (September 2)
2. Lang Lang 300, 500, 600yds (October 13)
3. Castlemaine 300, 500, 600yds (November 3?)
4. Geelong 800, 800, 800m (February 16?)
5. Rosedale Day 1 700, 800, 900yds (April 5)
6. Stawell Day 2, 800, 900, 1000yds (May ?)

As per last season, you do not have to attend all 6 shoots - the series total is based on your best 4. Again, points will be awarded for places, and these will be used instead of actual scores for series totals.

Portland shooters - you will see that 4 of the 6 legs are west of Melbourne. This has been done so that you can enter the series knowing that it need not involve extensive travelling. We hope you will take advantage of it - your participation is very welcome.

If anyone has questions or suggestions, we can talk about them here, or you're welcome to PM me.

Thanks.

Alan

Too many 800yds, I would like to see the 800yd at Rosedale dropped and replaced with 1000yd

Wayne,

Yes we all know why YOU want more 1000yds! :D :D

What I have done is to correct my earlier post, and change the 3 x 800yds at Geelong to 3 x 800m. So now you can no longer say there's too many 800 yds!

Regarding changing the Rosedale ranges, that's not on I'm afraid. Our series just sits on top of the OPM without having any say about the running (apart from having Open targets and 3 badges for Open). Also I don't believe the Rosedale Committee would want to change it - they have their own reasons for wanting the 900 instead of 1000.

As it is I think we have a good even spread of ranges including plenty of longs :

2 x 300yd
3 x 500yd
3 x 600yd
2 x 700yd
2 x 800yd
3 x 875yd
2 x 900yd
1 x 1000yd

The average range is nearly 700yd which is actually higher than most Queens.

p b,

Definitely is. Its not an official Vic Championship, and like the Queens shoots, anyone can compete.

If the Pro-Cal series continues to succeed, then maybe some other states will follow with a similar idea. Perhaps SA can be next?

The other question is an obvious one, there are no stages located at Bendigo. Why?????

Wayne,

Stawell actually asked if they could host a leg, and theirs was going to be only a week earlier than Bendigo at one stage, so we decided to give them a turn instead. There's no reason why we can't ask Bendigo again the following year, but they will need to supply Open targets.

Here's what I used to get there last year :
barry davies wrote:Horsham Range is about 5 km out of the city centre on the Natimuk road( Wimmera Hwy ), the 900yd is just inside the fence adjacent to road.
If you come via Stawell or Hamilton ,cross river, past an oval, turn left onto Natimuk road, past racetrack and about a further 4 km.

I'll add that its on the LHS of the road if going as per the above instructions.
