Anybody interested in shooting an F Class match at 1500 yards
Put you name here so that the range builders at Coonabarabran will get an idea of suport. They have the oportunity when they build their new range to design it to cater for ranges up to a maximum of 1500 yards.
I will be moving down to NSW later this year and would love to let the 284 realy stretch its legs out. Maybe something like a 1200 yd line and a 1500 yd line would be great.
This is looking like a list of everyone who fancies their chances of actually getting to 1500yds. I've done some calculations and my 0.6 BC projectiles would need to be launched at over 3200fps to be supersonic at 1500 yds. I'm sure you don't need to be supersonic, but if you're not then I'd imagine accuracy could be very unpredictable?
Now's the time to forget about your 6.5-284 and screw in that new 40" barrel you've been sitting on chambered in 6.5/50BMG. Reckon 3200fps would be a cinch.

p b,
When you say I'LL be supersonic I believe you. With 240gn @ 2950 in a 10Kg rifle, you might be travelling backwards from the recoil at a considerable speed!!
While I did say 0.6 BC, I did the calculation for a 142SMK which starts with a BC of 0.595, then drops to 0.55 at velocities below 2050fps. I guess Bergers or some of the more exotic bullets such as Clinch River would have BCs at or above 0.6, in which case I would agree with your statement
