Low power - 10 X or even lower - can be plenty accurate but to get the best out of it, aiming at the centre and knob twiddling for wind is far better.

Aim off for wind is more repeatable at higher magnification. But accuracy will not be better than the lower magnification aimed at centre.

One reason I like scopes of around 20 - 25 magnification is that mirage shows well and is usually readable in a riflescope just like in a spotting scope.

There are people who win using lower power. There are people who win using high power. Its a very personal choice.

funny you should mention omarks as thats what im using, it cost me $300 plus a farrel 20min base and a scope, on my two best days of shooting its shot a 200.35 at 3,5,6,6 and a 175.28 at 3,6,9(15 shots at 900). all though those are days with virtually no wind, so at least i know the rifle shoots

someone must have better sources than me cause i cant find a 8.5x25 for under 899us so thats 1150 and in nz add 100 shipping and and 150gst/taxes makes it $1400 the fx3 25 may be an option but thats only been out for a few months so i wasnt considering it
