"Also when the heavy 7mm is made available it may tilt the tables toward the short mags."
Do you mean the berger 195gr 7mm projectile ?
Does anyone know what the BC would be ? (approx, i know its theoretical)
I suppose that means 1:8 twists will be the go ....

SAUM are a great cartridge especially if you intend shoot some match rifle
Also when the heavy 7mm is made available it may tilt the tables toward the short mags.
Hey Rich - Don't forget we had a fair mix of RSAUM in the team too (and the majority of top 20 individuals)

. Although there is nothing wrong with the 284 and variants (they would be my go to round) I now have 5 SAUM barrels (most are superbly accurate) and used 3 different ones all the way from 300-1000 in Brisbane. They are a 6BR on steroids.
As you stated the new 195 grainer could be a game changer if it proves usable (Although the 115 and 117gr in 6mm didn't change the game as much as first thought).
Loaded with around 56 gr 2209 and 180 gr you will get reasonable barrel life, very good case life and superbly accurate from 300 through to 1200+. If you want to go for it then move over to 2217 and see what you can pump them up to.
Replacing the 7remmag in existing action (mag bolt face) this would be my first choice.
Looking forward to the possibility of 195gr. Berger has recommended at least a 1 in 8.5 twist at this stage. These work very well for 180 gr hybrids and would be a great place to start (although maybe do your homework on this - some people like to twist the new hybrids a bit faster than others so possibly a 1 in 8 as Macguru suggested.)

My impression is that the Berger 195 will be a hunting grade round, which implies a thinner jacket.

Dave,
I'm not sure if you're aware of the new rule regarding Tassie Teams, but the NQ team has been restricted to only 1 RSAUM, to be fair to all other teams.
And no, you can't put all team members through it
