I would go with the Dasher, I built my first one 12 months ago and will never be without one, it's the most forgiving cartridge I've ever used, 33 grains of 08 with 105's gives 3020 with an ES of 8, it just too easy and lovely to shoot.

+1 on the dasher. Matt built mine a few months ago. And boy does it shoot.

The Dasher is a Cracka, and I think a good idea would be for the Smith fitting the barrel supply the formed cases , as case forming becomes a problem to most, ? let alone the wear of the barrel in the procces, ARE Dasher cases available Yet ? Chop

I feel a little strange in commenting here amongst the 6mm experts (although I have had a few of my own). But to give my opinion to the queries - If it was me going the 6*47 improved option then I would definitely look at the magnum primers and or faster powders(08??) to ensure consistent ignition. Camerons 6*47 Swiss match is a beauty and I think uses a large rifle primer and 2208. I have seen a few very good 6XC's as well. My 6*46 was run on large rifle primer brass and fed 2208 and performed well too. I feel small primers with slower powders seem trickier to tune and can have inconsistent ignition in varying temperatures.

How about some stats ,on all matches won with 223 , 6mm , 7mm , over 3,5,6, opms,and Queens, compiled and information given, ? Maybe a progress page of some sort, ? with a talley starting with 223 ? Chop

And then look at what is winning over a period of time at what ranges, Maybe Alan can help with this one ? To see the calibre of the year ?? Chop

I have run two barrels of 6x47L and have just had one chambered to the 6x47L long dasher. Within 74rds I have a ball park load worked out. If you have a 6x47L improved reamer then I would consider using it as it will do the job and give awesome brass life.

If you want to run against the bigger guns the only other one I would consider is the 243AI if you can get a reamer. Dasher and BR just don't push the bullet fast enough to be competitive. If your gonna run a 6mm the whole way you need to push them I think. There is a significant difference in drift between dasher speeds and the speeds that one can get from the hotter 6mm's.

Just my opinion. I've been able to keep the bigger guns honest a few times with my 6mm, I just need to read wind better more.

The knowledge of people on this site with practical specialists in different calibres is fantastic and the goodwill is a pleasure to be associated with. There is always something new to test your logic.

I have another question. Do you guys using 6mm prefer to use a no turn neck or turn a thin neck about .008"?

Brad, I would like to know how Quick gets on. As an experimenter by nature, I would like to explore if the 6-6.5x47 Ackley is a bit finicky and see if I can come up with a solution which I would pass on. DaveMc has given me some pointers to follow up. I hear what you guys are saying about the Dasher, especially Matt's 8 fps ES is very, very convincing. At the end of the day its all about consistency. You can not plan if you do not know the outcomes. I'll probably end up getting another barrel and chambering it in a Dasher. But for club shooting, which I am more interested in these days, the 6br made from chopping the 6-6.5x47 Ackley after experiments sounds a very good proposition for me now in terms of my physical limitations.

David, there's not much load data on the long dasher so you will have to start from scratch nearly. I know what has worked with the normal 6x47L so I'll use that as a baseline and go from there. Choose a powder that's best suited to the cartridge and that gives good powder fill. I've only used 450 primers but will experiment with others when I have a load worked up. And most of all choose a bullet that will suit your barrel best. Be it a tight bore or loosr like my current trueflite.

I had a 6mm Super LR for a while but my 30 cal mags made me trade it for something else.
I still have the reamer and gauges.
You have the choice of large or small primers as you can neck down the Lapua Palma brass or just go with the Rem or Win brass.
Super LR has the 30 deg shoulder and can do what all the other smaller cases can do or more if wanted.
