You mentioned that muzzle brakes might not be allowed for tactical class, why is that? If you are to cater to tactical, I would have thought allowing brakes on a special event would have been beneficial.
I have to agree here, you will be limiting the number of participants if you ban brakes.

Not being privy to the earlier discussions Craig has had with QRA but this could be an issue with insurance.
Because brakes are specifically banned for NRAA competition, then running an event under QRA umbrella would not allow brakes either?
The only event they are allowed is 1000 yard benchrest as far as I can recall? Are they legal for 500 yd Fly?

Well done Craig. Count us in.
I don't see this as creating divisions with TR.
Maybe the opposite. I know TR shooters who shoot F Class at their home ranges.
This would be an opportunity for them to compete in a full on comp.
Lots of work done behind the scenes no doubt, thank you.
As for muzzle brakes, the range custodian's decision has to be respected.

Well done on seeing the potential in "Tactical" class.
This should attract A LOT of interest.

Hi Everyone,
We will table the use of Muzzle Brakes for the next meeting, to see if is at all possible.
Kind Regards

Hi Craig
If the tactical shooters all shoot at the same time there shouldn't be a problem.
I tried to get the use of muzzle brakes allowed at our range (for hunting rifles and 1000yd BR ) and even offered to make some shields so others wouldn't cop the exhaust which I assume is the main concern?
The answer was NO
Not really sure why
I haven't been to a 1000yd BR comp is anything specific done there because of muzzle brakes?

Yep.
Different attitudes.

... and altitude (not on the ground), but the ones I've seen used, the shooters came with a couple of ply sheets that they attached to the bench either side of their rifles.

Hi Craig, sounds great. I'll try to get some more leave???
I like the idea of a pairs match. And if it can be 15 shots at 900 and 1000 that would make for a challenge!

Sounds Great! I'll be there. Tactical class is a great Idea and I think will bring in a lot of new blood. Muzzle breaks I think would need to be allowed but the shooter would have have a screen to protect the adjacent shooters hearing.
I like 2 day event as it's easier to be away from work over a weekend .
Non coached teams events maybe 2-3 person sounds good !
My standard rifle would qualify for tactical so it makes food for thought.
A night match would be great ! See the rounds fly at night and a real wind reading challenge !
10 and 2 is fine and maybe 1 x 15 shot 1000 for the final.
Thanks G

Just had a radical idea for tactical!
We could invite the Au defence force to submit a team?? Would be good to go back to our origins too!
Just a thought !

Not possible. Range hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 PM in accordance with the range approval. We try to be good neighbours - which is costing us big bucks to stay noise legal - see

Craig,
Regarding the length of the event I notice in the first post its down for October 8 -10, Thu to Sat. If its hoped to attract interstate shooters, then I wouldn't make it less than 3 days (to make the travel worthwhile). And it would be good if there was another Belmont event next to it, to give interstaters the option of a 4th or 5th day. Maybe South Burnett DRA could be persuaded to bring their OPM to Belmont this year? I reckon they'd get a big boost to numbers.
