If you wanted to come down for a few hours one day I would be happy to sit with you and run you through everything I am doing FTR wise, ive had more than a few people tell me about excess pressure, short barrel life etc. etc. but its simply not the case with a lot of us, sure, there were some doing it, but most have realised it was a fruitless venture.

There is also some well priced components available that will let you be competitive, let face it even FS apart from a few cents on a projectile isn't that cheap, particularly if you run a front rest, as most of the guys at the top are.

Ask Lindsay C. next time you see him about my setup, he was concerned about my loads, I convinced him to trust me a shoot the rifle, see first hand what bolt lift, cases, primer recoil etc. etc. where like. He was quite shocked to see that a lot of what people are saying is just BS.

I'll even donate and old barrel if you want to shoot FTR.

+1 I went there with high pressures it is just not worth it, you gain about an inch at a 1,000 yards at the cost of barrel life and smashing brass, just not worth it, accuracy is far more important. Ask Steve Laz if you need big bullets to shoot FTR he won the Nationals in FTR with 155s.

Would advise 1:11 or 1:10 if you plan to shoot FTR. I have seen 1:10 shoot 155g very well.

Jason thanks mate, you're offers are very kind but I'm certain that I don't want to shoot FTR.. At least for now.

I enjoy shooting off a front rest and already have one. There would be zero additional cost for me to setup a F-STD rifle to start toying at the club.

Hi Dennis , all of my barrels have been 1;12 at 28" and 30" with hybreds . My nemesis was running 1:13 with hybreds ( ask him ) and did very well a few years back now. Have had a savage in 1:10 shot quite well. Thing is more spin , needs more energy to achieve the same velocities also more barrel torque as well
. I think you'll enjoy standard and maybe even do a stint in b grade ( no shame , I'll probably go back to b grade when I go back for a stint too!)
just to find ur feet with the wind deflection and also to just enjoy it.
I myself am finding , if I'm not enjoying myself I don't shoot all that well and putting mental goals on myself just destroys me and paralyises me not to take gambles or shoot freestyle! Again I'm gabbing on as I do but this sport is %90 mental.
Getting back on topic , 155's need to be humming at 2985 fps at least . Best speed with a 30" barrel is around 3040fps. Something special just happens at those speeds at 1000 yds , quite noticeably too!
Dyers are also good and cheap and faster speeds seem to able to achieved with the same powder load to the Bergers .
Good luck mate ! Regards Graham.
