Alan, Did many of you take a brand new barrel over for the worlds? Is that why you where doing load development?

Quick, I would have thought the developments just to tweak existing loads to the new, possibly very different conditions. eg, temperature and altitude.

I've read that some shooters are seeing pressure signs and blowing primers due to the heat on given loads developed elsewhere.

Interested to hear the answer though

In answer to Quick's questions, everyone would have developed good loads in Australia, and brought about 150 to 180 loaded rounds (Airline limit). All other ammo has to be loaded here using US powder and primers. One or two people found their Australian loads worked here, even fewer found the same load of American powder worked also. So there has been a need to (a) get an exact velocity relationship between Aus and US powder and (b) look for a new load if the Australian one doesn't work. In my case I have two barrels that went well in Australia. I am concentrating on the better one and trying a multitude of loads with the same powder (N165) and two different projectiles, 180Hyb and 180VLD.

Still no results I'm afraid, but I can tell you that Larry Bartholome won F-Open, and Marty Lobert came about 7th.

Thanks mate. Was just curious as I would have thought everyone would have had good loads worked up.

Just a quick report as we finished early today and I have finally loaded all rounds for tomorrows start to the world champs.

As Alan mentioned above we had to find new loads with the American powder, primers, projectiles etc but also there is a lot of cooking rounds here and blown primers etc. Whilst the air temp is not that hot. the high desert sun has the ground cooking and anything left out as well (including a few fair skinned legs!) After the mornings training session it appears most have things fairly worked out but careful attention to keeping bags under the shade and off the ground is wise.

It was a thrill for both FTR and FO teams to do well in the 4 shooter nationals amongst some of the best coaches and teams in the world on their home soil. Whilst it is a long way to go and the 8 shooter teams will be a different level again it certainly gave both teams a lift and belief that anything is possible

a glance at the scores for the past day of the nationals looks like Richard braund shot the equal second highest score of the day.

this proves several things.
1. lower light is THE training ground for raton.
2. a 284 pointed in the right direction beats a big hammer not so well pointed. lobert reinforced this the other day.
3. a 2 lug action is the way to go.
still no scores for day 1 of the worlds. just says under construction".
