I tried calling the numbers on the flier and left voicemail.
My friend told me about the meeting just yesterday. I would like to nominate for the Sunday component of the North Arm Centenary OPM, just because I'd like to support the 308 repeater folding bi-pod class. I had to work today and am not interested in winning, but will travel the 2hrs to attend, then 2hrs home. I know it's a two day event of which I will miss the first day, again working tomorrow.

Good initiative David - excellent way to give the military style rifles a bit of a 'class' and a great way to attract the practical rifle guys and girls.

edit:
Got two calls back, see you Sunday.

Well, the first day is done and dusted at the North Arm OPM.
At the end of an extremely challenging Day One that saw numerous broken hearts in all grades of all disciplines, Julie McEwan shot superbly to take out the days Aggregate and No.1 badge with a great 177-15.
In second place, and cooking breakfast in the morning is that other McEwan, a bloke named Cameron, on 175-11.
One point back and claiming the No3 badge is Brisbane RC's Lindsay Crombie on 174-9.
I was lucky enough to get the No 4, with 173-12, just two "X's" in front of FCWC FTR Team member Jason Mayers who was 5th (173-10) , and my new Beaudesert Clubmate Gary Towers ... previously based out West at Barcaldine, won the No.6 badge with 173-9.
Gary's wife Shirlene did a great job with her 223 to take out the day in F Std B Grade.
With no formal FTR offered this year, it was great to see Jason Mayers try his hand in F Open with his 6BR and he did well indeed to take home a badge. There will no doubt be a book opened shortly to take bets as to how long till he builds himself a 7mm :D :D
The weather at the 400 yard mound was particularly brutal at times, with some very respected shooters really hammered. I don't ever expect to watch Mark Fairbairn shoot another 46-3  :|
He came back strongly at 500 yds with a superb 59-6 and will no doubt be back tomorrow for the Lilley & District OPM, determined to earn a badge.
Julie McEwan was beaten in a shoot-off in last years event by North Arms Dennis Brown, and in the form she showed today it is hard to see her handing the 2014 Centanary event to any challenger without a very determined fight. I will post a photo tomorrow night of the "waterline" she shot at 400 yds today with the new 6 Dasher that Cam just built for her...I refuse to believe that anyone could have ever shot a flatter vertical. "Unbelievable" was the description used by most who saw the ET monitor =D> =D>
Tomorrow sees the winner of every discipline take home a gold medallion, specially struck by the North Arm Committee to celebrate 100 years of shooting on the same range, still privately owned.
It is a real privelige to be part of such a great competition, and I am really looking forward to tomorrow.

All this talk about me and 7mm's I am confused, do you actually expect that I would fall for the Fopen trap Tony? ;)

Could you do me a favor and just remind Cam I got him at 500 with my BR on my debut run, off a bipod.. :) hahaha. Poor Cam, every bugger wants to he on top of him, he's a good sport though, so his missus reckons!!

I had a great time actually, the targets were shooter heavy, but we managed to get through at a reasonable pace in the end, I would say that was due to the smooth running of the event.

A very tidy range! Well done to Northarm for the organization!!

My first comp on electronics, bit of a learning curve there but obviously not overly detrimental.

So......................... Anyone got a 7mm barrel they want to part with :?

Julie McEwan shot very well again today to take home the No1 badge in the Aggregate, along with the Centenary Gold Medal, after a fast finishing Lindsay Crombie from Brisbane took out the second day , which put him into Second Place overall, just in front of Cameron McEwan.
I held onto my 4th place spot from yesterday, as did Gary Towers with the No.5 Badge, and North Arms Andrew Pearce made up ground to take the No.6 badge for F Open

Shirlene Towers held it all together again today to take home the Gold Medallion struck for F Std B Grade. Shooting a little "rat gun" in some fairly troubling conditions she made some great wind calls. Also some great shooting from Bundaberg member Scotty Mitchell, beaten into second place by just a single point, and with a great X count.
Image

Great to see another shooting couple, with both really enjoying their sport, and Shirlene acknowledged the help and assistance (and reloading !!) from husband Gary
Image.

F Std A Grade was also a red hot competition, with some visiting shooters really raising the bar.
The eventual win went Norman Cross from the Gemfields with 335-17, and just a point back to David Avery on 334-25, all the way up from Cessnock Club.
Andrew McKillop from Bundaberg finished third, also just a point behind the winner, with 334-14.
It was only about a year ago that Andrew and Clubmate Scott Mitchell (2nd in B Grade Grand Agg) decided to get serious and asked a lot of people for general advice on what they needed to do to be more competetive. Something must have worked, because some very accomplished shooters finished behind them ! =D>

G'day All,

Those that attended the OPM will be aware that one of our club members was flying a drone around the range with a Go-Pro video camera attached. He's downloaded it to Youtube and it's nothing short of sensational. It's amazing to see the flags from these angles. Unfortunately, there's no sound.

Definately check it out, set it to 1080p and let it buffer before you sit down to watch.

Great stuff Denis. That drone was amazing.
I wonder if Mark has one yet?

When the drone reached the target, I love that you can see the clouds of dust as the bullets plow in to the back stop.

Maybe Mark will setup a drone console/monitor next to his rifle. The modern spotting scope......

In terms of a spectator sport, hyperthetically in our wildest dreams, if a few drones were set up along a range and relayed a panoramic aerial view of the range and all its flags, combined with that HEX electronic system that Belmont has........ wow.... when Dave Mc, Alan and Cam retire you could all fall into commentator roles on "The F-Class Show".  Who's gonna be Fatty Vautin!!??
