It would be far more stable to use a battery coupled to a dc regulator circuit. This cuts out the stuff in the middle.

12VDC to 240VAC to 12VDC kind of doesn't make sense... Battery 12.6V to regulated 12VDC would be slicker and more stable... not to mention more efficient.

At the time I figured I could use the inverter for other things if needed. Seemed like a good idea.

I can see your reasoning. The little switchmode plug pack is a weak link I feel. My FX120i came with a plug pack that had an international adapter. It is pretty dodgy, but works. It doesn't drift which is pleasing.

I'd much prefer the old style wirewound magnetic/iron-core brick transformer than these new lightweight efficient electronic style transformers that don't seem to last as long. I understand there is a new wirewound toroidal version of the magnetic transformer which is about twice as efficient as the original brick type with good reliability. I don't think the electronic transformers can soak up the shock and heat from power spikes particularly well?

A good laboratory power supply would work well (somewhat overkill but why not?). With that you can monitor output voltage and they do tend to be stable as well.

This sport is getting so technical these days!

Have purchased a set of the EJ-123 scales this afternoon. I will be the test dummy for them and see how they go. Was comfortable doing so with a 3 year warranty.

Brad, I'm eagerly waiting for your report. Things I'm interested in are repeatability, drift and time to stabilize.

Myself too. Im hoping its more to do with brand/build quality than price level of scales. Will soon see. Scales are in shipping. Instead of buying overseas, I was happy to spend the money here so any potential warranty issues wont be as much of a hassle.

Just a word of warning on the A & D scales, the 12V plug is centre pin negative (on my fx 120i anyway). I found this when looking for a better supply. Often the centre pin is positive. I checked first, others may not be so lucky.

Just wanting advice on the best power supply for my fx 300 scales
I have a deep cycle battery I can use with a DC regulator? Where can I get one of these?

I think I'll get in contact with A & D to find out what the operating voltage tolerance limits are. The most important thing is stability i.e. it doesn't vary. Also, how clean the output is.

A deep cycle battery will work well with a low noise 12v regulator. Just have to find one.

I used my FX 300i in the USA with the standard AnD power supply.
Marked 110/230v from memory.
I have had no issues using the standard power supply.
AnD scales are in use at many commercial installations throughout the country using network supply.
