It may add an exiting new dimension to our great sport, but for how many, the top shooters don't need any more advantages.
Mike.
Examples of shooting matches where no sighting shots are allowed are The Elcho Shield (first shot in 1862) this is an eight member team shoot of 15 scoring shots per shooter at 1000, 1100 and 1200 yards held at Bisley each year between Scotland, Ireland and England. Here in Australia we currently have a match called the Maloney Teams in Match Rifle and the Victorian Trophy in Long Range F-Class, these are team matches of 16 scoring shots per shooter at 1100 yds. There is also a new Bisley pairs match currently being developed which with any luck will be shot this year during the Long Range Nationals at Lower Light which will also be a no sighting shot match.

Norm,
There is some truth in what you say. And electronic targets will only make it worse.
There is a good case for having more Bisley style shooting, where if your partner(s) are slow, then every shot needs to be a sighter of sorts. I can't see any likelihood of eliminating the 2 sighters we now have - its a worldwide tradition. However Bisley style is already in the SSRs - just needs competition organisers to take a risk and try it.
Maybe we ought to start a new Bisley style OPM at Rosedale - maybe other states will follow.

There's a simple fix for all of these "problems" just make the whole target the X, that way no load development is required, no working out how your barrels likes to be cleaned, no need for sighters as most should be able to hit the X, the only thing we'll need to do is put a 30 second time delay on ET's and problem solved !!!!
