Critical barrel temperature

Is there actually a threshold temperature (or range) for increased barrel wear/life reduction?
I have always let the barrel cool between strings but wondered if there is a temperature range to define ‘too hot’. I was using my new Tikka CTR and it heats up very quickly so this might be helpful.
Given that barrel temperature (external anyway) is reasonably easy to measure (IR handheld thermometers are cheap and reliable) I would appreciate any thoughts.
Thanks
