7SAUM elevation

Hi guy’s
I’m finding that my 7SAUM will group in the X ring for the first 14 shots and then for the next 6 it prints one minute high at 600m.
I am using Berger 180 VLDs and once fired Norma cases.
The barrel a Bartlien has had about 600 rounds through it.
CCI Large rifle primmerS & 59.3gr Powder 2213sc
I have not changed powder lots or projectile lots or primmer lots.
Any ideas will be much appreciated.
Peter

Do you mean it is fine for the first 14 shots after cleaning, then jumps up once it fouls a bit, or do you mean even if you have already fired a target, it climbs suddenly by shot 14 each time, as in when it heats up?

Hi Rod,
I can fire the first 14 and then all of a sudden shots are all printing 1 minute high.

First 14 after cleaning, or first 14 in each string?

Hmmm, OK, so not a fouling thing then, more heat related. Have you tried other barrels in this action/stock?
Just wondering if it could be an action bedding issue.
I have had different brand barrels change POI slightly at a certain round count, but not the one you are using.

Need much more information to comment. It could be one of many things or even a combination of things. What action, what bedding system, how do you clean? Has the rifle always done this from day one!!

Action BAT M Dual port.
Devcon was used as the bedding compound
I clean with Boretech eliminator. 3 x patches then I used a stiff nylon brush through a dozen times
Let it sit and then run a wet patch and then patch it out.
I used the rifle for the Queens last year in Canberra and there was no issue.
I started using it again a couple of months ago and it has been happening since.
The rifle had been in the safe not taken apart.
Let me know what else you think might help

did you leave boretech in the barrel while storing?
I did with their copper or carbon remover (can't remember) as per instructions, and it pitted the bore so it looks dull.
it is now a tomato stake/tent peg.
I am sure the boretech products are good, but not left in barrels.
the same barrel was routinely cleaned with one/some of the boretech products, and developed the habit of raising poi about 1 moa after 6 - 8 shots.
very hard to use in a comp!
prior to this barrel all barrels have been say 1- 2moa low 1st shot on a clean barrel, 1/2 mo a low or spot on 2nd shot, and then ok.
that included the days of using sweets as well.

Carbon fouling would be my bet, from what you have posted above you do not use a carbon remover? Boretech is great for removing copper, but none of the copper removing solvents that I have tried remove carbon fouling as deposited by ADI powders very well. I suggest a good scrub with JB Bore Paste on patches NOT with a bronze brush, take care to remove all traces of the paste. Then use a carbon cleaner on a bronze brush each time you clean followed by the copper solvent followed with a light oiling. At 600 rounds your barrel will be starting to roughen in front of the throat, this can make the fouling harder to remove. Copper solvents should not be left in the barrel for extended periods.

Hi Keith, was going to comment similarly.
My experience with 2209 in 284’s and a SAUM is that a few patches and a nylon brush isn’t going to put a dent in the carbon buildup.
I use bronze brushes and carbon solvent, still need to paste every 2-300rounds.

Thanks All.
I will give your suggestions a go Keith.
BTW I don’t leave solvent in my barrel never have.
Anyway thanks again. Peter

Thanks for the advice. I used the JB's and it seems to have fixed the issue.
