Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to shooting and will be starting reloading soon,
but wanted to ask if anyone can give me a run down on powders.
In the f-standard rules it says you can use any commercially available powders
I was planning to use 2208 with small primer lapua brass and hpbt 155.5gr berger projectiles.
In .308 of course.
But was wondering what other powders ppl have and do use and why?
Also my local range shoots out to 1000 yards.

I beleive 2206h is another one used in your application. Its all to do with burn rates. Every catridge is different. I shoot both 6.5 creedmoor and 6mm both use a slower burning powder like 2209. The 308 performs best with 2208 and 2206h.

Most of the F-standard shooters at my club are running the 155’s with 2206H. More consistent burn I believe.

Don't forget bm8208. A lot of top t/r shooters use it these days.

Which website would be best to find all this information like burn rates etc?

Or is the adi website the only 1?

It's an ADI powder that's been around for a couple of years now. It's just a touch quicker and burns a lot cleaner than 2206h

whats it like for temperament ?
does it handle humidity or high/low temps like 2208 ?
does it have a similar size grain or smaller ?
ive only ever used 2208.

Also 2219 depending on barrel length, 8208 is great and meters well if your using a powder measure

8208 is supposedly even more temperature stable than 2208, but I havent personally tested this to confirm it. It also has smaller grain sizes and meters very well. I am only shooting 168 and 200s in 308 now, so use 2208, but when I was using 155s I much preferred 2206H and 8208.

Actually that's the main reason why it's being used over 06h and 08. It seems to be very stable and the same load can be used everywhere.

im running 46.1gn of 2208 behind the 155's,would that be a similar load with 8208 ?

Yeh, obviously it won't be the same as 8208, but it's easily compatible. I'm using 45.2 for just under 3050fps. Best part is burns a hell of a lot cleaner than 08, so for those of us who don't like to clean as much, it also holds other benefits.

No, it is a few steps faster burning than 2208 and is even faster burning than 2206H
