Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the 6.5-06, basically a necked down 30-06 (commonly necking up a 25-06 Remington case) with a 6.5 proji. Any performance figures guys, from experience.
Cheers.

Maxxx,
I haven't come across anyone in Australia using it, but understand its used in the US by a few. It has very similar performance to 6.5-284, but is of course a longer case. The AI version has more capacity and seems to be more common. Maybe you've already seen this thread on benchrest.com:
http://benchrest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47318. If you don't mind the extra fireforming steps and have a long action, then it'll be every bit as good as all the chamberings that will drive a 140gn class 6.5mm bullet at around 3000fps. Others are the 6.5x57AI, 6.5x55AI and of course the most common being the 6.5-284 which is the only one you can buy factory brass for.

There is also the plain old 6.5x55 Swede which can also perform very well.
I understand some of the reasons people try to improve it but I have seen this perform just as well as any other.
