You should do a search on here, there's plenty of info on the 284. Is the rifle an F-Open gun or otherwise? Some more info would help on what you intend to use it for.

Mac,
Have you seen this page?
https://www.accurateshooter.com/featured/7mm/#284win It is quite old but the information is still valid. In case you aren't aware H4350 is the same as 2209, and H4831SC same as 2213SC.

Raven is long term member of this forum who used a 284 and 168 VLDs very successfully for many years, probably using 2209. Try PMing him.

I have been shooting 284"s for quite a while. I load 51grs of 2209 with ICI or Fed. 210 gold medal primers. They shoot extremely well from 300yds to 1200yds, depending on tune. For best results, I tune one for the longs, and the other for the shorts. There is no reason the 168's won't work extremely well at any distance.

Good choice on primers. With a straight 284 I'd try 2209 first, start just below 50gr and work your way up slowly, you should find something before or at 51gr. I shot against a fellow earlier this year running a straight 284 with Berger 168gr VLDs, his grouped well but most go straight to the 180gr hybrids or VLDs. I run a 284 Shehane by way of comparison and use 2213sc in that which it really likes, but each barrel is different.

I tried out some straight 284 loads yesterday for the first time with a new Bartlein 9 twist.
No chrono data as I was just looking for a starting powder range and to find the load where the pressure signs would start. I will do load development later.
Lapua 284 cases not 6.5-284, fully prepped and neck turned, Federal GM210, 180 Berger Hybrid (moly) 0.020" jump, 2209 powder
I started at 49.5gn and worked up in 0.5gn increments to 51.5gn. Absolutely no pressure signs. I should have made some with higher loads. I realize moly projectiles will need more powder, I just have to find out how much more.
At 51gn and 51.5gn the groups shrunk to 9mm and one hole respectively. Thanks KHGS.
