Hi all,
I have decided to convert my LG bench rifle to 308 with a 10 twist barrel for FTR. Without modifying the stock to shave weight I think I might scrape under the 8 25kg limit. So I was wondering what is the lightest bipod that we can get in Australia? By my calculations I will have about 500gm for a bipod.

Joypod is a great platform. Pretty easy to make weight with barnard p, hv barrel, tuner and nf comp if you run the right stock. Mine is 38 inches long from memory and made with laminated marine ply. You could easily make a lighter one.

The dolphin AB carbon fibre one is 475 grams

The Dolphin will be a better bipod than the other two at managing torque because the rifle will sit lower in relation to the top of the leg. This makes it harder to lift a leg.
If you can afford the extra 30+ grams and depending on your stock width.

Although it’s not mentioned Mik makes a wider top version which has 84mm clearance so accommodates a 3” forend no problem. I have that version.

I’m selling a Joypod if interested

I have used the SEB Joypod for years, after using both bought and home made carbon fiber bipods.

For me, the reliability of the Joypod is key… Carbon fiber bipods are light, but at 584grams, so too is the joypod, the main difference is the full 7000 series aircraft grade aluminum, from experience if your carbon fiber bipod cops a knock unexpectedly, you will want to make sure you have spares on hand, it is strong, but it cracks, and I have seen more than a couple of shooters days ruined with a cracked CF bipod.

I have tried wider and even offset bipods to try stop torque and lower centre of gravity to make guns behave. Have also tried heavier bipod up front to stop it lifting and moving in recoil. Found 2 things:First- Position is key. Secondly, the same rifle with a joypod actually tracked better than wider and lower and heavier bipods. It’s just very repeatable in operation. I’m not paid or sponsored, I just use what I found is the best for me and built my rifle around that setup.

I have seen many a shooter have their biggest single gain in shooting ability after learning the importance of these 3 simple words.

Have been using Joypods for years, have tried other, but find myself back with Joypods for big matches, they work for me and the way I shoot. Gear I trust in.
