300 RUGER COMPACT MAGNUM

Hello all, especially Rod Davies.
On paper, the 300 RCM has some pros as an F Open caliber. It is larger than the RSUAM but smaller than the WSM. A con is very thin walls.
Why mention 30 cal when everyone knows that 7 mm bullets have superior B.C's. ? The larger bullet diameter results in a larger bore, therefore a better volume-to-bore ratio. This is an important factor in case efficiency. Also, it has been stated that more bullet-to-bullet consistency can be achieved in the manufacture of the larger diameter bullet.
Does anyone have experience with the 300 RCM?
Regards,
John T.

Is there any reason why the 300wsm doesn't turn you on?

OVERBORE AND TOO MUCH RECOIL.

The 300WSM is overbore, resulting in lower efficiency and reduced accuracy.
Recoil makes this case unmanageable over the course of fire of F Open competition.

Someone should let Steve Lazarus know that then.
He won the NT Queens F Open using a 300WSM for the “shorts” and a 7SAUM for the “longs”.
I would say the accuracy was acceptable, and recoil can be mitigated to a point with stock design and the recoil was manageable by Steve.

Hello.
This Topic is "300 RUGER COMPACT MAGNUM". My question is, does anyone have experience with the 300 RCP?
it is not about the 300 WSM. Nor am I looking at any case comparisons.
I'm looking for information, not a debate.
If you want to hijack this Topic, I'll leave you to it.

I was just curious as they are quite similar.
A mate had a gun built on the 375 Ruger necked down to 30cal, which I believe was the parent case for the 300RCM. That never saw a lot of daylight. I shot it once at Lower Light and while recoil was noticeable, I didn't find it oppressive. It used to chuck 230gr Bergers out above 3000fps and was like throwing bricks at the target from 1000 metres. I think quality brass might hold you back, the cartridge never really took off and is a bit of a dead duck now. Good luck with your project.

Hello Barossa.
Thank you, just what I'm looking for. Comes as no surprise.
That said, a 230 Berger @3000+ must have taken a hell of a load. Hodgdon recommends a maximum load for the 220gr Hdy EDL-X of 58.7 of H4350/2209 in the 300 WSM, 2634fps, 63,800 psi, 24' barrel.
