This is a great little tool and I'm hoping someone knows the tap size for the Modified Cases.

I would like to know the thread used in the Modified Cases so I can adapt some other calibers. I'm pretty sure its a 5/16 UN something. I need to know the something (TPI) so I can purchase a tap.

Can anyone please give me the correct tap size?

Apparently it is a 5/16 x 36 tpi.

There is a few people looking for them on another site. At this stage there does not appear to be an Australian supplier [from our research anyway] but there is an American supplier through whom it can be ordered.

Will let you know how the issue progresses on the other site.

Thanks Iggy, I checked with a supplier this morning before posting this thread and discovered UNC threads were available in 5/16x34 and 5/16x36. Now I know its 5/16 x 36tpi I will order one from Re-Tooling in Adelaide.

I too shoot a 223R in Std F-Class and am just starting out, thanks again for your info!

Re-Tooling in Adelaide (Pooraka) can get these taps ground to suit and deliver in 2 days of ordering. I'm getting a taper tap made up in UNC 5/16x36tpi.

How much does the tap cost? I have been looking on an American webiste which can supply the tap but I would prefer to support the Australian producers.

Iggy, I checked with Re-Tooling (PH 08 8349 5882) this morning and they said they would take interstate orders.

The taps they get are ground from High Speed Steel (like drill bits) and take a few days to be made up. The price they quoted me was $34.75 ex GST each. If you want one ask to speak to Simon or Paul when you call.

Get the intermediate or taper tap, I have been told that the taper tap is the best to use.

How much are they to bring over from the USofA?

The list price on the item is only $US 8.50 however I am still enquiring as to whether they take international orders and what other costs would be involved. The item is listed as:

Description: 5/16-36 HS Special Tap

I am also not sure if the item is a taper tap so it may not be that suitable for the task at hand.
