Great to hear Matchrifle is back on at Coonabarabran but it is a pity it is on at the same time as the 3 day Bisley shoot at Ungarie. 2 good long range comps on at the same time again.

Reminder Everyone ONE MONTH TO GO.
It’s time to start loading. Make sure you load extra rounds. You need 198 for the comp. I suggest at least 220 rounds to cover yourself.
Drive safely.
GO THE DISTANCE
Cheers

After a massive amount of work by the NSWMRA and those competitors who arrived over the past day and a half and pitched in to help, the Coonabrabran range was ready this afternoon to allow those shooting the next few days to get elevations at 1000, 1200 & 1500 yards.
At 1500 yards the combination of a shooting in a quick changing right wind that was anywhere between 3 to 8 minutes, with plenty of mirage, at a target that is 3.1 minutes from the centre to the edge made things a little interesting to say the least.
With the same hot and windy conditions forecast for the next few days the Ultra Long Range Challenge looks like it will live up to its name…..

Results after two days. A final 20 shot 1200 yard and 20 shot 1500 yard stage tomorrow.

Is there any confirmation on the future of shooting at this range? It would be great to see access to this range continue.

The new owners of the property are Coonabarabran locals and are happy for the range to stay.
Three weeks ago Firearms Registry renewed the range permit.
Hence, the future is stable.
Cheers

That is so great to hear. It is a great range and hopefully it will make much more use of its longer ranges.

After a long drive home and a few days to de-compress here are the final results of the LRC & ULRC.
Congratulations to Tony McGuigan & Nev Lyon for winning the LRC (1000, 1100 & 1200 aggregate)
and Cliff Austen & Tom Smith for their wins in the 1500 yard aggregate and the ULRC (1000, 1100, 1200 & 1500 agg).
It was a great few days of shooting with the heat, wind and mirage testing everyones skills.
