Barnard Actions Update (does anyone have news?)

What’s the latest on Barnard Precision, are they back manufacturing or is there ongoing issues?
They are one of the best around for what we do IMO, be a shame if they don’t continue.
Does anyone have any news, perhaps some of our Kiwi brothers can update?

An acquaintance went to their shop a week or so ago. Place all locked up with notice posted on the door.
Several rumours circulating (unsustantiated) which I won't post here.
Like you guys, we don't want them to disappear/cease.

Hopefully Barnard sort their stuff and get back into production - plenty of people out there wanting one. Worst case scenario...I think the US becomes the primary source for an F-class action, but wait times and additional cost will be the tradeoff. Borden, BAT, Kelbly...I know the wait times for a Borden are 12 months and BAT is in a similar boat...Not sure about Kelby. Again, hopefully Barnard can open their doors and turn the machines on.

This would be a good opportunity for someone local like lithgow to make an action.

Very doubtful you'll see Barnard again....
Vic Rifle Assoc have been doing Bergara actions... Rem 700 footprint and from memory more "cost effective" than the Barnard. The Bergara seems to get rave reviews from the ELR community....
Other option avail at the moment in oz... "Howa" barreled actions

I think there are a few alternatives, what you need is a gunsmith to list which actions are suitable for , say attaching a parallel 1.25" barrel. I have a barnard, like a huge number of you, and the other features I like are
1. The bedding block. You need solid bedding especially with a heavy barrel (any barrel really) so this design is great.
2. The trigger. There are lots of good triggers out there but the barnard is one of them.
You can get these features with other actions

Another Kiwi connection has hinted maybe some other businesses or individuals might be interested in taking the business over, so hopefully this might come to fruition.

Also confirmed with a local NZ contact - looks like Barnard has closed shop.

I wonder if the current government in NZ is making life too difficult for firearms and/or parts manufacturers operating in that country. I wouldn't surprise me these days.

That is positive news indeed, to hear people are getting parts is great..
One of the most robust, nicest, actions around IMO!!
Fingers crossed!!

The last i heard was that Barnard have closed up the public facing side of the business and Truflite barrels is their agent now. The reason being that they could not get enough time to do the auctual machining because of the time taken to deal with enquiries etc.
