Aluminium Stock???

I must have too much time on my hands.

I want to make an aluminium stock and was wondering if anyone might have some ideas.

Pics of what others have done, simple drawings, notes...whatever.

Will be machining out of solid 75 x 50 bar.

As far as the finish colour I will be using a sort of electro-plating that will allow ANY colour.

Cheers

Come on RP..... Have some faith in the Dremelator.

Play your cards right you might even be offered a discounted one if all goes well....should be able to knock $2 off for a poor old farmer.

Rob,

the "sort of electroplating" might be anodising. Suggest looking at a HHE stock, like the one I was using at the Queens, they are fairly decent design, and not too complicated.

If you want to spend the rest of your life doing it, look at a Grunig and Elmiger Revolution III, that is some piece of complicated machinery.

There are guys in AU making stocks to some degree. Other members will know who they are.

Mate, if you need to use a milling machine or lathe at some stage, just let me know. Bring bourbon and we can have a "machine shop party". Just dont think about pushing the buttons on the Mazak.....

dear mr little banger, what sort of stock do you wanna make , target/f class or something else? ive made an ally stock for my 303 no4 and a good mate of mine sorta copied and made one for a skk. but his a sheety and im a boily so we made them with 38mm ally tube, then pressed up 3mm ally for the comb. i used 40mm ally shs for the forearm and he used ally tube. he had a contract with qpws shootin grunters out of a chopper and he loves that stock. mine is super light for carting around but its surprizeing how much an old lee enfield can root with a stock that dosent weight f'all

Back in 1992, I started work on a MR backgun, straight 50 x 50 billet of 6060 T6. The barrel channel is done, bedded the CG2000 and was preparing the trigger slot when team politics entered the fray so I left the lot in the corner of shed. Subsequently sold off the action, two Obermeyer barrels and WW bullets. Can provide pics, James

Some Pics would be awesome James.

I was thinking of using 6061 (7000 series was 1st thought but can't be welded) and would love to find 1m of 75mm x 50mm........will have all adjustment as well as left and right offset...

Have done some sketches already but looking for much input.

Cheers

Littlebang, are you going to stick to the KISS princeple?? Btw, a solid billit of 6061 T6 is not cheap from what I recall, If you can get it at a good price let me know, the old man will proberly buy 5m worth for another gyro project.

Rob,

WELDED???!!!...

Do you want to make a stock or a water tank?

There are perhaps other methods, no????

For which action would you make the stock?

Not planning to TIG but could be an advantage for prototype should I need to repair any stuff-ups along the way....So, no I am not making a water tank.

All going well the stock I invisage would be capable of fitting most actions popular in OZ, (including the INCH) but for the 1st I will be mating a Lawton from GAS(unless I come across a bargain along the way) as another of my 5.56mm family.

Have you looked at the Sinclair stock? Not made anymore - but google for pics. One for sale on Long Range forum.

Does give me a few more ideas...cheers. And was well worth the look.

I am sure it will be a good buy for someone but with the exchange rates between OZ and USA atm would make for an expensive option.

had a bright idea the other nite

will kill 2 birds with 1 stone

buy your coca-cola in cans, dont try & tell me u dont drink the stuff, i was at the queens and saw the empty 1.25 l bottles everywhere

draw a rough outline in the sand in ya backyard & start melting the coke cans down

will save all that messy work with the dremel & also save the envoiroment

and dont try and tell me your not a nature lover, cos with all that birdwatching u do, u must be 8)

Best laugh I had all day RP...You and a bright idea in the one sentence...surely this would count as an oxymoron....and the fact that you had it at night amplifies that there is some truth your days are spent in thoughtless slumber.

Killing birds with stones just tells us that you have no faith in your aim at a target like the rest of us semi-normals.

As for the whole smelting of alumina...well isn't there enough of this already going on in Yarloop....not too worried about the wildlife just the people but dont want to be the cause of another scandal similar to that of the lead in Esperance. I realise that out in the sticks where you live it might be acceptable to engineer in the way you explain but you really need to get to the caost a little more for some cool air as it is clear that your grey matter has become a little addled as summer begins.....we all feel so sorry for you.

You are right about the amount of that dark coloured soda that I consume but it is purely for medicinal purpose....my heart rate sits at about 35 beats/min and the pills required to remedy this would contribute more ill health to me than the stretched girth that the fizzy is to blame.

The whole nature lover thing got to me though...upon 1st read I thought it said MATURE LOVER and then I realised that it must have been a typo.

Have a good one COMBUSTO

Cheers
