New to Sydney and F Class - need some pointers

Hello all,

I have just moved to Sydney and was looking for some pointers on where to go to start shooting F-Class?

Also where would you suggest I go to zero in my new .22 CZ that I have just ordered. Are there any ranges that I can just rock up to on a Saturday to put a few rounds down range? The rabbits on teh farm are getting a little out of hand...

Many thanks in advance,

Ben

G'day mate. Why not set up a small range on your farm?? I've done that at my place.

Hi Ben

At Concord Club we have an enthusiastic group of F Class shooters - who are winning the local MDRA competition at the moment, so I think you may well find some like minded shooters.

Come down to ANZAC Range at Malabar any Saturday by about midday and look us up at the club house - directly in front of the grass parking area overlooking the main range.

22 sighting in can be done at indoors at SSAA St Mary's or at Smallbore range at ANZAC as well.

PM me if you need more info.

Hello all,

Thanks for your quick reply. Quick it is a little complicated letting rip on the farm. Suffice to say it would be easier to go through a few boxes on a range here in Sydney than on the farm which is 3 hours away. Compared to St Mary's, which I am guessing is less than an hour.

Audrey, thanks for the heads up. I will be sure to visit you guys early in the new year. When do you start up again after the break?

Ohh ok then. I live on a property (only 5 acres but enough for the .22s).

Definitley plenty of F class at Malaba, but there are also a swag of other clubs for you to visit for open shoots within an hour or so drive from Sydney, such as Cessnock, Gosford, Hornsby, Hilltop.

RDavies,

Yes I was planning on getting down to Hilltop as I here that is the only range in the Sydney area that will allow .338 Lap to be shot.

I have to say that I do miss the ease of Adelaide shooting...

How is the weather in Sydney today, bucketing down!

I think you will get on well at Hilltop, it has a strong F class open following.

If you get serious about F class I would look at what veryone else is shooting, which is either 223 or 308 in F class standard or in F class open, most use various mid sized cartridges from 6mm BR up to 6.5x284, with the biggest you will find being a 284. A big boomer like yours would be good fun in the 1000yd or long range F class shoots out to 1200 yds, but you would score better with a smaller 6 or 6.5 caliber in F class open.
