Anyone have info on Rem 223 loads using Varget or 2208 and why does it seem to perform better than H4895/2206H?

Hi I use 2206h at 23.5
This load has won me a queens and a number of ranges.
As for why 2208 may be better its a matter of trialing loads and finding out whats best for your rifle

Not sure Ive heard that 2208 performs better or worse. Probably more a case of using one common powder if you (or family members) use a 223 alongside a 308. Easy enough to use the same powder, no mistakes, and prob some savings in keeping stocks yourself.

With our club rifle (and a number of others I know around here) all use 2208 in their 223R's when using the 80 grain bullet and 30 inch barrel. Probably the same reasons for using 08 in 308 - its a bit slower, and can be used with the longer barrel - so Im told. Also, this amount of powder fills the case pretty much leaving no space - also supposedly being more efficient.

In our club rifle, which I reload for, we are now at 25 grains of 2208, with the bullet base at the neck junction in the case, and .040" jump. This seems to be very common here at least. This rifle, which is an Omark conversion, shoots extremely well.

As has been said in the past, WORK UP TO THE LOAD, do not try to use it right off. Only recommended in a strong competition type action/barrel combo.
